  1. I remember my grandfather buying this for me at Caldor in the 90s when I was a kid. My project will be to clean it up on my next day off work. Cant believe this still exists. It was in a garage that leaked so all the stuff in it was destroyed pretty much and a lot of rust but I think it will clean up OK. I used this from the mid 90s to around 2000 when I stopped fishing until this past summer. I cant wait to use this seems the new boxes I got are too weak to sit on. This thing I can stand on it and jump and not hurt it.
  2. I started watching fishing tournaments on TV and notice alot of them they use their rod to lift the fish up out of the water and grab the fish from the air hanging from the rod. Is this a thing you can do with any rod or is their rods special? Can it be done but do you risk breaking the rod?
  3. I actually just set up some Ned stuff last week to try when the ice melts. I did take YUM Dingers I already had and cut them with scissors to size.
  4. We will never know if the old anglers are better than the new ones unless the new guys do a tourny with no electrics. Its kind of ridiculous today I was watching a tourny and the guys had some electric thing that attracted the fish to his boat. I am not one to stand in way of progress and myself will use the same but I can respect someone who can fish and catch with no fancy electrics. Thing is I dont think they would ever do one without the electrics because most of the guys peddle the stuff and probably have contracts with the makers of them.
  5. Here is craw from Albany NY area in September
  6. I only started fishing again in August and I am going nuts now that I cant fish. I got so used to fishing every week that now I dont know what to do. I cant even enjoy anything any more I just want to fish. Soon as the ice melts im going to be crying of happiness.
  7. I will keep that in mind. It looks very nice and I love my pflueger closed face President combo. This reel I found is working very good I tested it on my old Zebco 33 rod but obviously its not a great rod for this real. Its nice and smooth and if I can pick up a decent rod for 20-50 it would be splendid to use if it works for a while. I never used this type of reel but my grandfather always used these ones.
  8. So 6'6" medium fast is the type? The only places around here that sells rods is dicks and walmarts so I will check them out. Thanks
  9. I found this reel on the bank where I fish. I have a habit of really braving and going far far beyond where most people fish along the bank. This was FAR FAR from the car parking so whoever abandoned it must have been mad if it was his only reel. I threw it in my tackle bag after checking it and seeing the thing was all wobbly when reeling. Turned out the nut holds the spinning part was loose. I took the reel apart every piece and cleaned it and greased and oiled it also put loctite on that nut so it hopefully wont spin out anymore. My problem is I dont have any spin rods all mine are the ones where the reel goes on top of the rod. I put 6 pounds mono on it and want to use it for more delicate fishing. What is a good rod for this purpose that is also pretty cheap like 30-50 bucks?
  10. So White Perch it is? Here is more pictures of ones I got.
  11. I got an A rig because I saw a man on TV using it. It was a big thing and altogether it was like 25-30 bucks to put together. I was a total noob so I just tied it to my 10 pound mono on my Zebco 33. Pitched back and went for a huge cast and it went flying so far I could barely see where it hit the water. My line had snapped off right in the reel. I was so mad I almost died.
  12. From my photographs I take I judge that I got skunk every time I went fishing after November 13th. So I was skunked 12 days until I had to give up from water frozen. Plus 3 skunks on the Hudson/Mohawk rivers. The biggest fish I got since I started fishing in august was November I got 5 SM that were 3-5 pounds. Those times it was 5-8 hours fishing to get 1 or 2 fish. In the summer I catch a lot of fish but they are smaller fish usually. Those 15 times being skunked did not bother me as I always practice something and just like being out there. This staying home because of the ice SUCKS. I dont care if I feel like a bad angler or not I just want to fish.
  13. Im looking through my pictures from this past year and have noticed I caught a ton of this kind of fish. I cant figure out what kind of fish it is. I got ones very small and ones about this size which is around the biggest I seem to have got.
  14. Is this stuff any good and any tips on how to use it? Its almost full. Somebody either dropped it by mistake or didnt like it and left it.
  15. The Bass wont last long. Me and my buddies tried this 30+ years ago when we were 10-11 years old. We even had an old tin washtub with crawfish in it to feed the bass but he died only around a week after. Then all the Craws died too. The only "wild" animal pet that I had was a painted turtle I caught and he lived over 10 years then I set him free again.
  16. I read many reviews on both and people said the Tandem is very stable even with 3 people and a dog. The width is what really scared me about the fishing one I think being 6 inches wider would have to be more stable. Also the Tandem had different seat orientation from single person so it is in the right position. I will put fish pole holders on it first thing the try and figure a seat mod. I dont want it too high but just enough so I can put a comfortable seat that will fit me better for hours and hours of sitting down. I think I also need to buy an ore for it because now i see it does not come with one. I got a deal on the boat and would not want to bother the seller sending it back for another one so I will have to deal with this one no matter what. I just happy to have something other than my blow up SeaHawk 3 boat. Although I will still use the blow up when I go to smaller places or dont feel like lugging a big boat onto my car.
  17. I went to Dicks/field stream today to spend my gift card. I got a Pflueger President Spincast rod/reel combo. I wanted a "good" spincast because while I enjoyed my Zebco 33 all summer it is really bad shape and grinds and bad now. The Pflueger cast great and is very smooth. I put the Apu Garcia reel on the new Pflueger rod to try it out. I loaded it up with braid I got today and went to the Husdon to try to practice using the bait cast. You see the picture that is all the line left. I got such tangles I had to cut off a bunch of line. It was a full spool. THESE ARE NO JOKE very hard to use. It took me 3 hours out in the cold until I got the hang of it. But now I can effortlessly cast the bait caster further than the zebco 33 would swinging with all my might. Now I see what people talk about when they say the "feel the lure". I can feel every chatter of a chatter bait and every time my lure hits something in the water. It is amazing I cant wait for spring so badly. Fishing with that Zebco was like fishing blind compared to this setup. I am holding off for now on the line in my giant penn 6000 because I spent all my funds for now but I will follow the advice here when I do it.
  18. If I put the mono on first how do I attach the braid to the mono? Would the knot catch on the rod on the way out ? Is that better than just all 20 braid? Thats probably right. I will probably take 2 rods with me. I also got a Apu Garcia promax bait reel. But I never used one before so I have to learn to use it also buy a rod for it.
  19. I dont know anybody who fishes to trade and I already opened it and played with it so im sure the store would not take it back for trade. I dont even know where it was purchased from. If I put the right line would it cast further than my Zebco 33 rod reel combo I use?
  20. Oh sorry I forgot its the 6000 size one. Seems pretty big but it was a gift so I want to use it for bass fishing.
  21. I got this rod and reel for christmas. Its very big stuff but I fish tomhannock reservoir which does not allow boats and I am always seeing monster fish jumping out of range of a cast. One time I put a big old heddon bait on and threw it out with all my might and got a really nice 5+ pound small mouth bass right after I saw him jump. Such a rush seeing that big brown fish jump all the way out of the water. Reeling him in on my Zebco 33 was intense and anything. Which line would allow me to cast furthest with this Penn Battle II and 9 feet rod? Any tips on how to get it way out?
  22. I got this on a good price. I was really torn on which one I wanted to get because I had a few choices. I narrow it down to LIFETIME KOKANEE 106 TANDEM KAYAK and the LIFETIME STEALTH ANGLER 110 FISHING KAYAK. What made me pick the tandem is the fact that its rated for 425 pounds and the Angler is rated for only 300. Also the Tandem is about 6 inches wider. I am 6 feet 2 and 255-300 pounds depending on how much I eat. So me with gear would be pushing or exceeding the Anglers weight rating. It would be tough for me to hit the 425 on the Tandem. I would probably never actually use it as a tandem it will be only myself on it. Now I know I need to install rod holder and stuff. I would like to mod this to be good for fishing. First thing I need tips on which is a good seat because the seat on this looks bad. I would like something that sits higher and is comfortable for fishing all day. Take into account I am not rich so cost effective mods are what I am looking for. Any tips on mods I can do this winter to get ready for spring would be appreciated.
  23. Thanks for the advice. I have some jerk baits but I am planning on going tomorrow to Mohawk and picking up some swimbaits at Cabelas on my way to fish. I would be pretty happy to catch a fish this time of the year! Is it smart to stick to one spot for a long time or move around after no fish after a few casts?
  24. I picked this up on sale on Amazon for 130 or so. I made a floor out of plywood I already had. Got a life jacket for around 40 bucks. Made an anchor out of an old 8 pound dumbell and some walmart rope. I am 6 foot 2 and 250 pounds and its find for just me. Its a good joke how they say its a 3 man boat. For one its comfortable and I can even stand up in a pinch with my 3/4 plywood floor. Boated all last summer but I only go to places where there is no motor or only electric motor allowed which is plenty up here in NY. I did take it out on Ballston lake though and the motor boat wakes didnt scare me too much as I thought they would. Real workout rowing this thing though. I got a attachment for my cordless drill in gonna try out in the spring to see if I can at least get out there easy. For me its all about space because I got no place to store a boat and only drive a sedan. This whole set up can fit in the back seat of my sedan with the plywood in the trunk. I actually keep it in my car year round it does not bother me for space. Takes me 10 minutes from getting out of the car to have the thing pumped up and ready to go.
