Low profile baitcast reels, Shimano SLX 70 mgl alternatives
Where or how do you get the $18 coupon, funny Alixexpress wants to charge me sales tax, lol. I'd like to purchase more than one but will keep that in mind. I know when I am throwing my old curado's or the new SLX's I notice the difference. Not sure what I need to do to my old citicas they are not throwing as nice, maybe change out the bearings but then I have no idea what size etc...plus even though they are the dsv models they are bigger and I like smaller.

Low profile baitcast reels, Shimano SLX 70 mgl alternatives
I see so many lews models which one is the one at DSG so I know which ones to look out for. I would have bought those used ones that was a good price. I guess I need to keep an eye out on the used section.

Low profile baitcast reels, Shimano SLX 70 mgl alternatives
I would be concerned that ths stuff on Aliexpress would be knockoffs. That would be my concern purchasing from there. Yeah I am looking for a SLX mgl alternative, I like the black maxs but I really like my slx reels and wasn't sure if there was a cheaper alternative to the SLX mgl.

Low profile baitcast reels, Shimano SLX 70 mgl alternatives
Thanks this helps a bunch, kind of what I assumed but wasn't sure if there was anything out there that would be close. I picked up some new XLT's from ALF for a crazy $65ea price, they are left hand reels but that hasn't bothered me much and I have been really impressed. I have some old citica's and makes me think of replacing them, lol. Are the curado's MGL's the same size? I will just have to keep an eye out and hope someone trades some in at ALF, lol. Can you give me some of those sites, I have never looked or would even know where to start...thanks

Umbrella rig
Bringing this back up...looking for advice on WHERE to throw the a-rig. I have gone out last couple of times and have it rigged up and have thrown it around but nada so far...lol. Just looking for suggestions in where maybe better locations may be to increase my odds. I have read that they are good cold water baits and my lake temps are around 42 right now. Out fishing to day throwing a shad rap in the back of a cove and all of a sudden shad was jumping out of the water, I assume some bass were on the hunt. I pulled out my a-rig and threw it around but no takers. Current setup is a 6th sense short 5 wire setup, three hooks and the top 2 are dummies. More of a finesse setup, throwing 3" swimbaits, the 6th sense a-rig has small willow blades on all the wires. Thanks

Low profile baitcast reels, Shimano SLX 70 mgl alternatives
I'm cheap but like shimano slx xt reels and have been able to pick some up on ALF from time to time. I have small hands and really prefer a low profile reel, I'd really like the Shimano mgl 70 reel but I have not been able to find a good deal or used on ALF. The question is what other reels out there that would be an alternative to the SLX mgl 70 reels. I broke down last year and needed some inexpensive reels and picked up quite a few black maxes and actually they have not and are not a bad reel but when I throw one of my curados or newer slx reels well you get the picture...lol. Just wanted to ask what are some of the alternatives to the low profile shimano reels, thanks!

Umbrella rig
This was a larger deep diver but they suck to throw in the wind..potato chip is a good analogy... obviously the other guy did really good with the jerkbait, me not so much...have so much to learn, just never sure where I should be fishing in the lake.

Umbrella rig
2 dinks on shad rap..Ive never fished this late in the year so no idea what Im doing, lol. The one other guy that I know was out there killed it with jerkbait in a couple of locations...i threw a jerkbait but nada...probably fishing to fast and not in the right area...i know where he was fishing so if I get out on Saturday will try to fish them. Its only 600 acres and not deep, but has lots of boat lifts which tends to be most of the structure. Only thing ive had any luck this fall has been spinnerbait, but that was when water was warmer. I dont have ffs which I thin would at least help me know where the fish are setting up, now I just have to cover a lot of water. Lake has a good concentration of decent size bass and are well fed with shad its just a matter of figuring out where and in what where I struggle, lol.

Umbrella rig
Yeah it wasnt bad, mid 50s but the wind was a blowing, but small lake so no big deal just the hassle factor but plenty of pockets etc to slip out of the wind. Water temp down to 42 and gonna get real code next couple of days but warm up over weekend hoping to get out Saturday or Sunday. St. Louis area can get cold but has lots of warm days also...going to try to go out on the warmer days and see how much I can get in...hoping zits another mild one but we will see ...

Thanks everyone, I have screw locks and that was what I was going to use and just wanted to make sure I wasn't out in left field or even in the ballpark, lol. Windy as heck but I'm still going to go out, mid 50's and water temp is probably mid 40's at the surface....

Should have done this sooner, about to go out in a couple hours in MO and thinking about throwing a a-rig. I have one of the smaller 6th sense units, 5 wire, in MO I can only have three hooks so I know my top 2 baits will be without. The only heads I have are 3/16 which is a little heavier than I would like but my plan was bottom three to go with 3/16 and then the top to use just screw locks into the baits. My question is do you have to use weighted heads with the top two arms, I have screw locks and was thinking that might work. I am going to be throwing small 3" baits, maybe on the middle one a 4" bait but do I need weights for the top 2 baits, thanks. Just trying maybe to save some time on the water rigging it up now, thanks!

The latest sale thread
Yeah my lakes are devoid of grass, problem for me I like to throw them but the bigger ones and my age do not get along in regards to throwing them all day...sigh. I actually took a drive to DSG on BF and the store didn't really have much at all in regard to decent deals. Will try and search for tp1x and see if it comes up...really need a higher speed 8.x baitcaster reel and really haven't seen any decent deals for my cheap self, lol. Update...looked and not listed in my area, I only have one DSG left that carries any fishing stuff. In my area they have pretty much eliminated most of the fishing stuff.

I just need to know where the crankbait anonymous users meet...I think I have an issue an bought way to many, although can you ever have to many crankbaits?

Berkley website had 30% sitewide, I'm trying to pick up some more crankbaits and wanted to get a few flicker shad but there site is terrible, they have them listed as size 4,5,6,7 and 9. No weight or length listed for them, is it really so hard to list the specs for each version, sigh. Found a listing on Scheels, sheesh is it really that hard to have the dang specs on the mfg website store... Size Length Weight Running Depth # of Hooks Hook Size 4 1.5in (4cm) 1/8oz 6'-8' 2 #8 5 2in (5cm) 3/16oz 9'-11' 2 #8 6 2.25in (6cm) 1/4oz 10'-12' 2 #8 7 2.75in (7cm) 5/16oz 11'-13' 2 #6 9 3.5in (9cm) 1/2oz 11'-13' 2 #4

How to learn lakes for conditions question
Welp today was a good day, best I have had in a long time. Really appreciate folks suggesting things to do etc..I still have so much to learn and being older hope that I can learn quicker than my past lol. Was really windy today, gusts to 20mph but I knew it was coming from the south with would be coming up the main lake but there would be plenty of branches that I could fish and be out of the wind, and let me tell ya it was windy. Front coming through tonight so not sure if that was the deal or I actually figured at least for today what they were wanting. I had been fishing for a couple of hours and had some new stuff tied on, micro chatterbait and some of the other stuff that I had been throwing, spinnerbait, jig and bunch of other stuff. Wasn't sure what skirt to go with on the micro chatterbait, changed the white out to a green pumpkin and went to a couple of shallow flats and nothing...decided to change my jig from a black/blue skirt and blue craw trailer to a more bluegill skirt, still dark has a little blue and green and change my trailer out for a green pumpkin craw. Was fishing an different area around a lift and reeling my lure back to the boat and had one swim up and almost hit it at the boat. That got me thinking, all my skirts on my spinnerbaits, and chatter baits where white, not bright white but that light white with some chartreuse in them so I switched out my skirt on my spinnerbait (one willow, one colorado) to the same one that I had on my jig and, trimmed it a little and put on a watermelon red fat albert grub. Well I started getting some hits, still pretty slow but was getting some dinks here and there and that was better than nada. Fished up one of the arms and it was getting late, had about couple of hours and wanted to fish a pocket off the main lake. Oh boy the wind was crazy gusting up the lake, pretty small pocket and the wind and water was pushing into it pretty good, there was a couple spots that I wanted to fish, one was towards the back on the side of the lift that was acting like a funnel with the wind and water, and what do you know nice 3lb fish. Really glad I had spot lock since the wind was really pushing me around. From there I bounced to the other side that had and arm that would be out of the wind and decided to fish that. Again up shallow to the side of a lift, 5lb fish (ok it was 4.93 but I'm rounding up, lol). I fished pretty much that arm and caught nice keeper after keeper. Probably caught 5-6 keepers and bunch of dinks. Not sure if it was the skirt making the difference or maybe the front coming through but I've not had that good of an outing in a long time, will keep trying the darker skirts for sure now, haven't tried it on a spinnerbait. TLDR; really had a nice day on the water, best day in quite some time even with the wind. Still have so much to learn about where and when and on what but will keep plugging along and try to keep learning. Again appreciate all the suggestions and advice. My plan is to create a thread in the Fishing reports section and just record my outings on these lakes and maybe over time continue to figure things out. I need to write things down anyways so I can see what the trends year over year so I figure I will just create a thread and record my outings, good and bad, lol.

How to learn lakes for conditions question
This lake has lots of shad, they are well feed and how its able to have decent size fish. When you say shad imitation on a jig what exactly is that?

How to learn lakes for conditions question
Welp first time this year getting skunked, usually I can catch at least a couple of dinks but nada...well nada on the bass that is...I seem to catch the biggest catfish, jig, crankbait it doesn't matter, lol. Caught one starting off, 17lbs, ugh, I knew what it was by now I know how they fight... I was up one arm and I know there was a lot of baitfish, every time I though my bait, little fish would jump out of the water, lol. Was pretty windy and cloudy, water temp has dropped to about 60 degrees, last week it was 62-63. Fished different areas today, fished swim jig along docks, secondary points, jog, rocket shad, squarebill, small squarebill and threw limited big glide bait and big swimbait (like a magdraft) with an underspin. I wish I had FFS at least I could see where the fish are setting up in the lake, right now I have no idea. Anyone have any suggestions I'm all ears.

How to learn lakes for conditions question
Week before last I caught some nice fish on big spinnerbait, so I thought I had figured something out, one really nice 5.5lb and another 3.5lb. I missed one at the end and I never saw but it pulled harder than the 5.5, really wish I could have lander her. So I tried to repeat that last week and I think I caught one fish on that same spinnerbait, lol. I've heard that the jig is getting the most action and going to fish that more tomorrow and try some smaller, like tiny crankbaits and another small swimbait. Will just keep trying different things, going to concentrate in one of the arms that I haven't spent much time in and see if I can pick up more bites. They are lowering the smaller lake that flows into the larger lake, lots of water being dumped so at least in that one area there is some flow for a change. One more thing, I think I may also throw a chatterbait, not really heard much about throwing one in the fall...just looking for other ideas and thought maybe I would throw that into the mix also. I also have a big glide bait maybe just try a little of everything, lol.
