Patoka Lake, Indiana
I was just there at the end of July. Temps were not favorable for fishing with air in the mid 90s and water temps in the low 90s. However, in two and a half days we boated 11 bass. My wife caught her PB a 5.75lber on a senko. We caught a few in the 3 range. All fish were caught on finesse presentations in 15-20fow near on in grass. We mostly fished the northern portion of the lake. Send me a PM if you need additional info. Patoka was once a mecca for bass fishing. However over the last 8-10 years I believe the introduction of the stripers has put a serious dent in the bass population as they are no longer the apex predator in the lake. Patoka still hosts over 60 bass tournaments a year but winning bags have been seriously lighter in recent years. The most recent BFL tournament there had a winning total weight of 13lbs. Many of the anglers reported it as the toughest lake they have ever fished.

Anyone Make Their Own Beef Jerky?
Honey, I don't know why our house smells like rotting meat????? It definately would work but I don't think I would recommend preparing jerky that way unless I was on an episode of Dual Survival. 1. Filters are not sanitary or food service approved 2. He has the fan blowing from the ground up on his patio?? Hello bugs, oil, gas etc. 3. The carbon or fiberglass fibers that are sticking to that meat are going to give it a nice flavor MMMMMMMM goood

Clean Burning Oil
Something doesn't sound right... With that mixture I wouldn't think you would see that much smoke or fouled plugs that quickly. How are you mixing the oil? Are you pre-mixing it before putting it in the tank or adding gas then oil?

Tires
There was just a recent thread here on trailer tires. Maxxus, Carlisles, and GY Marathons (american made only) were the general concensus.

Slugs
I have a winchester 1300 12ga. Unfortunately, it only likes winchester ammo. I have been using Winchester Platinum Tips for about six years and have yet to have a deer go more than 30 yds. I am getting 2 in groups at 100yds and have taken deer out to 150 using these slugs. The only issue is that my 1300 is synthetic and is fairly light. It definately beats you up on recoil more than any other gun I have fired and that includes 300 win mags, 45/70s and so on.

Scent Preference
Megastrike all the way... I have used JJs Magic but unfortunately, spilled it in my boat and it still smells quite strong. I have actually begun to enjoy the sweet smell of garlic on a beautiful morning.

Disabled Fisherman
X2 Also, when launching by yourself just tie a 20 ft rope to you bow eye and the other to the back of your tow vehicle. when you launch the boat just let it float off. Get out, walk to the back of your truck, unhook the rope and pull your boat to the shore/dock. Tie it off and park your truck. Problem Solved. BTW if you float like a cork just tie some line to your ankle, flop in the water. Look, now you are a bobber...... who needs a boat

How Much Boat Can I Fit Into 18 Feet?
Depending on the length of your trailer they do make aftermarket swing-away tongue kits for under $100. That would save you more room as well. http://www.trailerandtruckparts.com/Swing-Away-Tongue-Kits_c_221.html

Lake St.clair
The river can be an excellent place to fish. However, with your boat I would be very careful and pick your days wisely while watching the weather. LSC can get VERY nasty REALLY quickly and you don't want to be out there in 5-6 footers. The river, due to barge traffic etc. can also be quite rough so safety is a huge concern As for as the fishing, the entire lake averages around 15 ft deep with deeper water out in the shipping lanes. I would work the 8-15 foot range from metro beach to 8 mile. Let the current basically drift you down and look for grass patches and shell beds. You should have no trouble hooking up

Lake St.clair
What are you fishing for? How big is your boat? How long is your stay going to be? These will help the rest of the members give you some more specific answers. I would recommend going anytime from Sept-end of October The 9 mile marina is a great place to launch and Kens Marina has some of the best burgers on the lake IMO Try fishing the mile roads from Metro to 8mile. You will be able to catch smallies, walley, pike, LM, Musky. Drop shotting, bladebaits, tubes, cranks, and jerkbaits should be a good starting point.

Lost Rpms
sounds to me like you had a small obstruction. Then, when you freshened up the lines, carbs etc. you loosened the obstruction and it cleared. I am in need of cleaning out and replacing my fuel line and bulb as well. You may have just pushed me over the edge. Congrats on fixing it yourself.

Would You Keep Carp To Eat?
There are places that do harvest the Asian carp, in Asia. Actually saw it on Bizarre Foods and Anthony Bourdain. That would be a good way to keep the population in check and feed thousands of people. Heck, some countries consider the Snakehead a delicacy, why not Asian Carp

Would You Keep Carp To Eat?
Carp can be ground and made into fish patties, much like a crab cake. They are delicious. It can also be pickled like herring. There is a restaurant in Northern Michigan that serves carp broiled with lemon butter, fresh shallots, and served over a creamed spinach that is fantastic.... However, just cutting one up from a river and deep frying it without the proper care is out of the question. Much of the meat will have a brownish color as stated previously. This must be removed as it is similar to the mud vein in other fish. If the proper care is given carp is light, flaky, and quite buttery, much like a chilean sea bass. Proper care when cleaning fish is no different than proper care when field dressing a deer. The more vicera and silver skin you remove from a deer the less gamey it will taste.
