  1. do you want the recipe to the Red Lobster biscuits???????
  2. There is a decent Non sanctioned weekly Wednsday night tourney there that is nicely done. Launches out of Whites Landing at 5:30. Tourney from 6-9. You should check it out. Decent money
  3. Kinda like to see the pics of the wife to compare....... just sayin
  4. First, type boat launching into the search topic at the top of this page. There are many great threads about boat launching dos and dont's. If you are going to practice launching your boat either go during the week or very early in the morning or very late in the evening. You do NOT want to "practice" at the ramp on a weekend during peak hours. You will just slow the process down and annoy seasoned boaters. For me, I go through a mental checklist every time at the launch. In fact, I used to have it written down in my truck until it became habit. Go through this checklist every time without fail, exactly the same order and you will not forget a plug, a strap etc. I start in my truck once I pull up to the ramp 1. break on 2. unhook chain, unhook winch strap 3. walk down port side unhook rear strap 4. screw in plug and remove jack 5.walk around to starbord side and remove rear strap 6. when walking past captains seat flip on power and accessories 7. at front of boat check the hitch again just in case 8. get back in truck, open both windows 9. release brake 10. back boat into water. As for opening both windows, this gives you much more awareness and allows you to hear someone yelling at you that you are about to hit the dock, etc. With practice, you should be able to launch your boat in about 5 minutes even by yourself. If you want a crash coarse in what NOT to do, just go sit at the ramp on a Saturday around noon. Take a few cold ones cause it will be comical.. Good Luck
  5. Depending on the region you live which appears to be northern I would guess this is the cottonwood blooms. They appear like small cotton balls floating everywhere. It is always a good time if you have these by your home to check and spray off your AC as these are notorius for clogging filters, especially on commercial rooftop units.
  6. In the end it boils down to how much boat can you get for the money? you stated that the prices were roughly the same, is that with the Nitro rigged out? If that is the case and with the Nitro set up with all the bells and whistles you want and that price is close to a standard rigged Ranger I would say go with the Nitro. Eventually, you are going to spend the money on electronics, lighting, etc even if you buy the standard Ranger so you will be paying for it either way. If you are looking at boat quality and stability standpiont and cost is just your sticking point I would recommend the Ranger. Not that Nitros are not a decent boat, IMO Rangers are a better product. Although you pay alot for that Ranger Nameplate....
  7. Excellent Glenn This is perfect information. This is something that I always wanted to try to get a better understanding of the lakes and ponds I fish as well as the ecosystem I am fishing. I will keep everyone posted
  8. I believe what you are describing is called " a baitcaster" If I may ask, why would you want this on a spinning rod when you could get the same setup and more durability with a baitcaster? is it a preference thing or are you unfamiliar with BC setups? Especially when pitching and flipping in cover you will get more accuracy, a stronger, more durable setup and have more options with heavy line. Otherwise, I would check out some smaller saltwater spinning setups
  9. Anybody know a good fish tagging system that is relatively cheap to purchase? We have two small ponds at the front of our sub. They are LOADED with bass ranging from 12-19in. My son and I would like to buy a tagging system and begin tagging some of the fish and then keeping a fish log. We would log the date, time, conditions and lures when caught as well as length and weight. Throughout the years we could monitor these fish and track patterns etc. I just thoguth it would be a great profect for my son and I to take on together
  10. Way2Slow Your posts are so informative and understandable... Thank You As for the price, Yes, I too almost sharted when he told me. I called my "guy" Ace Marine out of Michigan, who is, IMO, one of the best marine shops in the mid Michigan area and he fell out of his chair when I told him what they were charging me. He also said that part is about a 165-200.00 part and would take him maybe two hours to install, button everything up, and hook my boat back on my truck. Basically, they are bending me over When I pick up my boat next week I plan on informing him that now Two respected marine mechanics told me it would not take 5 hours to install this part. If they can't work with me on the price they will NEVER see my face again and I will tell everyone I can not to use their services So everyone in Ohio, Dry Dock Marine is not your best bet.....
  11. Agreed If you are moving, the thermacell isn't for you. But bank fishing or hunting out of a blind it is very effective with minimal winds. 100% deet is great as long as it doesn't cause four eyeballs in your offspring.... Then again, what better to see you with
  12. If you search the site for Seafoam there are MANY old posts on this product. Suffice to say that you would be wise to purchase Seafoam, StarTron, or marine Stabil and add it to your fuel. StarTron and Seafoam are excellent for both stabilizing and cleaning your carbs etc. Look for the best deals out there as I have seen it for 6.99 up to 10.99 per can
  13. Going with Boston in 6 Especially since my Brother in law played with Timmy Thomas in high school. It would be good to see something good came from Flint, Mi.
  14. Have you entertained the idea of having your boat wrapped???? It can be done for anywhere from 1000 to $3000 and will last around 1-3 years with care.
  15. Way 2 Slow would be the Guru on this subject IMO.
  16. Mustangs are the top of the line. However, BPS and Cabelas make some very good ones that are a little cheaper. Around 150.00 will get you a reliable vest. These inflatables like the mustangs are very comfortable and you almost forget you are wearing them. I have never heard of them discharging in the rain unless maybe you were in a hurricane type situation. You shouldn't be on the water in thoese conditions anywya. Good luck
  17. I have a 1996 Johnson 150 VRO motor. If you have read any of my previous posts you know that I recently had some issues with the motor losing power and then not starting. Thanks for all the input guys. I decided to take her in for a professional look see and the verdict was: A bad Power Pack Unfortunately, I just had the power pack replaced on 7-30-09. Warranty was 1 year. The part was purchased from CDI. I guess the good thing is the tech said this was one of the cleanest motors he has seen. Compression was perfect, everything else looked great. My question is, what exactly is the function of the Power Pack in the VRO motor and can it be eliminated/bypassed? That being said, replacing one every two years is not in my plans. The cost of the part is $265 and with labor around $800. Any thoughts guys? thanks
  18. We have a small pond in our sub that people fish in and leave trash. My son and I built a small waste receptacle using a mailbox post. We put a sign up to ask others to please use it to place trash in. It is the size of a small trash can. Every week we empty it before putting our house trash to the curb. I wanted to teach my son that it DOES matter and that being a steward of the sport is more about conservation than anything. Give it a shot

That has to be fake....... If not I would have been humming the jungle book theme and getting my ars outta the way.....
  20. Those guys on Hook n Look do many shows on local Mi. lakes. Many Northern Mi. lakes are extremely clear, gin clear, many with 20+ ft visibility. Traverse Bay is one they have done many shows on. Also a smaller lake, Lake Avalon. I met Mr. Stricker at a seminar and he was a class act. He explained to me that they have learned so much about fishing from filming and diving during their shows. He told me that many times you may catch a fish in a particular area but what you didn't see was there were 15-20 fish there. Pretty cool Congrats
  21. This entire issue stemmed from a previous posting "Lost my Mojo" I was running my boat at WOT and it suddenly lost power, going from 5000RPMs to around 3000. By the time I got to the dock the motor would only run(poorly) in idle. When I put her in gear she would stall. It was like I was only running on one plug. Once I pulled the plugs they were fouled. So, I changed the plugs. This whole thing has gone over a few weeks as I have been too busy to mess with it. Put the motor on the muffs the other day and found my battery was dead. I charged it but it wouldn't hold a charge. The motor seems to be cranking but it didn't have enough to fire. Fast forward to today, I will check the materials you listed and giver her a look before doing anything else.

7538....... Uh........?????? Hmmmmmm??? I would spend more time on here but that dang work seems to always get in the way of me time.
  23. Thanks Way2 slow good to see you around....... Unfortunately, I think my problems are bigger than originally expected. I changed the plugs only to find out that my battery is shot. It was due to be replaced soon anyway, about 5 years old. Also, I think it may be a fuel pump or something larger. Hopefully, I didn't burn up a powerhead in the process. I have been told that these are fairly easy to blow in VRO motors. Gonna take her in to a certified person before I make it worse
  24. X2 Cannot get bit on a crankbait if I stuck it in a fish's mouth
