Snagging alot of Limbs
Well if you are using a worm u probably need to hook it texas style and make sure the hook isnt exposed! Take the hook and stick it through the head of the worm about a 1/4" and slide it up to the eye of the hook. Next twist the hook and stick it back in the worm enough for it to hold but not to expose the end. You can stick the hook end through the worm but that may be to much for you to learn right now. The next thing i say do is practice casting. You dont have to be fishing to pracice. I practice regularly even though i fish alot. I like to take a tin can or bucket and set it in the hard and just practice getting it in there over hand, side cast, and flipping.

How does BFL work?
I agree if i was a boater and someone did that to me i would be ticked to. But like you all said it all depends on the baoter and his attitude. But i will surely keep it as a rule of thumb.

How does BFL work?
Thanks for all the input. This brings up another question. I have read the flw rules and this could be in there but i dont remember reading it. I know some tournaments the coangler cant cast past the center of the boat. I understand its ridiculious to cast all the way a head of the boater and it would be frustrating for the boater. But how should i follow this rule or rule of thumb? I guess for me its just good ethics.

How does BFL work?
I am new to the BFL but it seems to be like all other big tournaments (not your usually tuesday nighters). And please anyone correct me if i am wrong! You find ( if you can) a boater and have him as your partner. The only time you will fish with this individual is practice and i believe at the regional tournament if you make it. Now the boater you are with during the tournament is drawn on friday before the tournament. At the end of all the regular tournaments you and your boaters scores are totaled and if your in the top 20 (for example) you get to go to the regional tournament. And again if anyone sees something wrong please correct me!

So its okay to coverse with your boater if they are ok with that. I am sure there are some out there that are probably stuck up. What is the chances of me getting someone like that? Thanks for the money hints. Will the boater help me out with anything. If so to what extent. I am not saying hold my hand but maybe with ideas exc.?

I am trying to find the schedule for those tournaments. Can you help me? I live in VA near Smith Mountian Lake. I am pretty familiar with Smith Mountian and know a little about Kerr. geofftuck@pmtnet.net

night fishin??
In the eastern states we have an abundunce of shad and man you talk about fun during the summer time. As soon as the lake gets dark and the heavy boat traffic goes away the shad start to come to the top. This just causes a mad house of top water hits. Most of the time its stripers coming to the banks and running the shad up them. Sometimes a large mouth will hit and you can tell the difference in the sound. We usually catch the bass a little deeper on a texas rig or a thunderstick. But the stripers love the redfin slow rolled on top. I also agree with these guys on lights. The reason for lights being so good around here is that the shad congrugate near them. Alot of times the lighted docks or the lights off a parking lot will hold bait fish and were there is bait fish there is Prey.

Problem analysis
Always keep your line tight and try to never let the fish come out of the water. Most of the time when the fish comes out of the water the shaking of his head will loosen the hook and it will come out with the slack given when his head comes toward you.

How to pattern fish?
As always i can catch the smaller fish in the lake and sometimes they are hard to catch. But i was wondering just how do you guys pattern your fish when you either go to a new lake or just dont know what is going on. Like yesterday caught some smaller ones on carolina rig off points with a ZOOM U tale worm today upgraded to a mag worm same color and nothing. Even went back to the u Tale and still nothing. So just what is my best approach on patterning these bass?

Rock cliffs
I have a problem catching bass on one of the hardest lakes i have fished. The lake is called leesville lake in the southern part of virginia. This lake is part of the pump back system for the well known Smith Mountian Lake. The water can raise and lower ten feet in a day and consist of very few creeks. When the lake is down some of these Creeks become shallow. Most of the lake is steep rock cliffs that have been blown out when the lake was made. This is were i figure most of the fish stage due to the fact that they can move easier with the tide like water. But my question is: How do you fish these cliffs? I have little expierence with the deep vertical structure. Right now during the post spawn i can catch a few bass on the wacky worm in the small guts in the breaks of the rock walls but it isnt a strong pattern. Any suggestions will be appreciated?
