  1. Nope, it didn't go back. He's having it mounted. It was pretty spectacular. He said when we got there that he was going to have a wall-hanger in about an hour. He 1st caught a grass hopper on a stem of tall grass and put it on a bream hook.....he caught a bream about the size of the palm of his hand. He hooked the bream at the base of it's tail with a #4 hook and threw it back in, set his bait clicker, and waited. All of a sudden you could see the line moving like the bream was getting a little concerned about something. Then the bait clicker went nuts. Something BIG was on there. At 1st we thought it might have been a catfish because of the way it was "rolling". Then it came up and broke water and we both were like....Holy SH....... He fought it just a couple of minutes and finally hauled it in. It was then that the rain really started pouring and chased us back to the truck.
  2. We got to the pond yesterday at about 4:45PM. The threat of storms had been increasing most of the afternoon. I could see the dark clouds approaching from the East....which is unusual for here. My buddy and I agreed that when it got close enough, we'd call it a day. Well, it was on us pretty quickly. But not quick enough to prevent this..... It was 8lbs4oz....and will be watching him play pool from the wall from now on.... That's my buddy Mike. He's the one that's been teaching me the ropes and helping me get back into fishing. He's also the one I was with when I landed my 1-2 punches that I posted previously. I think he was getting back at me for catching mine while he didn't catch anything that day....because I didn't catch a thing yesterday. This was in a 5 acre pond in the middle of some hunting property he has. There's more fish this size in there too, which we'll be after this weekend.
  3. I hooked 2 through the eye yesterday. I use #2 Gamakatsu offset shank hooks most of the time. On occassion I'll tie on a #3 but I've never used anything larger. Both of the one's I handicapped were about a lbs or less. I agree with what others said.....it happens.
  4. Me and my cousin were fishing his brother-in-law's pasture pond yesterday. We did OK with catching about 12 bass each. But we witnessed one of the most bizarre events I've never heard of before. He was using a top-water plug. He was ALMOST finished with his retrieve....about 1 foot off the bank. All of a sudden I hear "KA-SLOOOOSH".....my 1st thought was that my cousin had fallen in the pond. I wheeled around and there on the bank was a dad-gummed catfish. It had tried to hit his lure as he was about to lift it from the water and evidently missed and actually landed about a foot UP the bank. I couldn't believe it. It flopped it's way back down to the water and away it went. We were fishing from the spot where the catfish are usually fed from, so I'm wondering if it thought that someone rang the dinner bell. Y'all ever heard about this happening before by a catfish???
  5. posted 06-06-2007 04:37 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Howdy folks. I just joined this site hoping to learn more about catching bass. I've always liked fishing, but until my recent career change, I never had time to go in the past several years. I went from working 6 days at 50+ hours a week to 30-40 hours and no weekends. Anyway, one of my good friends took me fishing in his bass boat....the second time I've fished off a boat in over 10 years. We weren't even planning on fishing this particular day. We mostly wanted to run his boat to make sure it was running good because he had a tournament the following weekend. The boat ran great so we decided to kill some time and wet a hook. Well, he gave me a rod and told me what to put on it. I tied on a Spot Remover jig with a green finess worm. He told me to jig it along the bottom. After about 15 minutes I caught this... Then fishing off the SAME point about 15 minutes later I landed this... This was on Lake Hartwell in NE, GA and I understand that not one but two bass this size on a large public lake....by a rookie mind you...don't happen every day. The 1st went 5lbs3oz and the 2nd went 7lbs6oz. As you might know, I'm "hooked" now. I have to admit, when I 1st landed these, I didn't understand why my buddy was making such a huge deal of it. I mean, I've seen bass this size before....on TV....and in pasture ponds. Once he explained the difference between fishing a small pond vs a public lake, it all made sense why he was so estatic. He's fished for years upon years and he says he's NEVER landed bass that size on a big lake. He's got a few on the wall that are bigger than mine, but they came from small ponds. Anyway, we've been about 3 times since I caught those. We only fished small ponds and I've done pretty decent. I've caught 11, 7, & 10 bass at each trip and at different ponds. All were about 1-2lbs or so....and we let them stay so they'll grow. So he's got 3 different decent ponds that he has all the permission in the world to fish any time he wants. I've got a 4 acre pond about 75 yards behind my house that I've never inquired about fishing in...but I'm in the process of contacting the land owner to see if he'll let me fish it. I've been down to it several times in the past and it appears that it doesn't see much human interaction....that might mean BIG FISH...right? Like I said, I'm not new to fishing, it's just been so long since I'd gone until recently and I've got a lot to learn and RElearn. I'll report back when I get a reply from the land owner about fishing this potential pig well. I just need to know more about what it takes to land more like these. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
