  1. Low 2°C, high 18°C which is about .....lemme do the math.... low 35°F, high 65°F. Freezing temperatures for us warm loving critters down here . Add to that the wind and ........ BRRRRRRRR ! :-X Puuhhhllleeeaassee! ;D We've had Highs of 17 degrees Fahrenheit with lows of 0 Fahrenheit for the past 4 days. The crazy thing is that on Sunday the high is supposed to be 65. : So much for snow in Kentucky in January. In years past we would have already had at least one good snow of 8" or more. This winter we have had 0. As soon as we get a good snow I will be ready for the warmer months to hit. I'm looking forward to fishing, and doing some good 'rock hunting' in the spring.
  2. Tell him to call your parents. My nephew has called me three times while fishing the strip pits on Peabody land. The wardens there circle like vultures.
  3. The only gripe I had about the movie was the ending. They could have been more creative! That's all I'm going to say so that I don't spoil it for anyone. ;D
  4. 110 miles for me at around 19 cents a mile! So, it costs me about $20 to get there and back. Plus my food stop along the way, and the wife's Starbucks while we are there. Then you add sales tax! I'd probably be better off just ordering online, because it costs me more to go there than it would be to ship it. I spent $16 in tax last time I went. That could have been almost all of my shipping costs for the same amount of stuff had I ordered it. Most of my orders can be shipped for less than $25. By the time I go there I've wasted a total of 5 hours of my day to get there, shop, and get back. Then I've spent $40 in gas, food, and extras. Then I add my tax for the purchase. I probably spend close to $65 just to get there and back with tax added on. Not to mention the fact that there are hardly ever sales going on that compare to the online sales. Then you have to go through the hassle with the sales clerk if something you want is on sale online, but not in the store. So, you spend another 10 minutes of your time having them price check everything to make sure it all works out. Thanks for waking me up to this fact. From now on I'll order online. ;D
  5. Threaten to burn your sisters room down, or get her headphones. > ;D Just joking. You can get a piece of insulated foam, similar to what they use in foam mattresses, if you think it's making a big difference in the habitat. Only you know how loud it is, and how much vibration is coming through the walls. Just place the foam between the wall and the tank, and it will absorb 95% of the vibration. Fish can be sensitive to vibration in the beginning, but they will adapt in time.
  6. In desperate need of a new camera, so bear with me and the poor quality. They were taken on a camera phone a few minutes ago. The first pic is of our 12 week old Sasha. She is a German Shepherd with a Czech / East German bloodline. Next is our 18 month old Gunnar. He is a German Shepherd with 100% German bloodline.
  7. I'm just curious, but did any of you take the flu shot? The reason I ask is I never get sick in the winter time, and those that I notice getting sick around me are those who took the flu shot awhile back.
  8. I'm sorry. I had just waken up when I posted that, and wasn't thinking clearly. I've edited the original post.
  9. I've been looking into the Carrot sticks, and noticed they offer them in a 'Parabolic' action. Could someone explain the difference to me between the Parabolic and standard rod actions ? I know the basic functions of the standard rods, but what is 'Parabolic'?
  10. I'm contemplating a spending freeze on my fishing equipment. The main reason is because every rod I've looked at today has gone up at least $20 in the past week. Before Christmas they were $20 cheaper. I think this constitutes me not buying anymore fishing equipment until I run into a sale worth taking advantage of. What do you guys think? I mean, it almost seems like they've added a 'cost of living' increase to the price of the new rods. ;D I know they don't cost that much more to make than the previous years. Also, I don't think transportation costs have affected the industry enough to constitute such a big increase in price. Am I making any sense?
  11. Tin.... Lead = Bullets for war Old batteries are really hot items with salvagers around my area right now. I don't think this is the case. The reason I don't is that we aren't in the same boat we were in WWII. As a matter of fact, the world price of lead is scheduled to drop $400 per ton in 2008! We have so many sources for lead in the U.S. that we could have wars on 2 fronts, and still not have to raise the price. I think it is just the bait companies making up for the rise in the cost of transportation. I would be more likely to lean towards the cost of transportation than the cost of lead. With crude oil in the $96 a barrel stage. The cost of transporting goods across the US has increased dramatically.
  12. No offense guys, but I really don't like Fords ;D I would much rather have an International CXT series truck than anything Ford made. When it comes to heavy loads you need to go with a name you can trust. ;D ;D I think the Internationals are a lot better looking than the Fords any day. Plus, it has the right pipes for that look! The International could pull any boat you'd want to buy. You can even get side mounted turbo cans for the really rough look.
  13. Has anyone else had a warmer than average year? By this time of year in Kentucky we should be holding in the mid to low 30's, but it has been in the mid to high 40's as long as I can remember. Is there some sort of weather phenomenon going on that I'm not aware of? I haven't paid that much attention to the news lately, but it has been warmer than average. I can remember Christmas not too long ago, and we always had temps in the mid to low 20's on some occasions.
  14. He speaks the truth!!! Unless you want to work for the state, and make a very low income you will need a minimum of a Master's Degree. Without it you won't be able to afford a house boat!
  15. Go with Garmin. They've been around longer, and offer more options in the way of maps, etc ...
  16. That's a no brainer. Jessica Simpson! ;D
  17. I can't tell if that's a Ford or an International. You know what they say about guys that have to have big toys don't you? ;D ;D They lack in other areas. ;D At least he has a nice truck to go muddin' in. Wonder if it's even street legal?
  18. X2 You can't go wrong with BPS XPS Fluorocarbon. One trick I have learned, in case you are interested, is to spool up with about 50 yds. of mono before adding the fluorocarbon line. This will save you at least $20 a month if you go through line as fast as I do. Instead of stripping off a whole spool of mono .... you have 50 yds. of fluoro tied to another 50 yds. of mono.
  19. That's the case for most equipment in the Master Catalog that comes out. You can still get the previous price for the rods if you order before 31 December! After that you have to wait until the Spring Angler sale happens, and when they get you a Spring Catalog. They generally raise the prices in the Master Catalog that way they have room to play with when it comes to sales. For instance. I bought another Johnny Morris Elite rod in the store the other night. Before Christmas they were on sale for $129 each. In the store they were $179. So, I told the sales clerk, and they did a '90 day low price check', and I got it for $129. I do this for anything I buy, other than baits, at the store. I ask that they do a '90 Day Low Price Check', and I always get it for at least $10 cheaper than what they have it for at the present. Although, I did pick up another 6 of the Rick Clunn Lucky Craft baits while I could still get them for $10.88! ;D Patience usually pays off for you to wait until the end of January to buy . This is when they start getting rid of the old to make way for the new.
  20. I'm going to buy a Carrot Stick, and need some opinions on which one to buy. Going buy what Rick Clunn suggests I should buy a 7' in a Heavy Action for what I will be doing. I want it for a Deep Diving crank bait / heavy swim bait rod. I will be using baits like the River2Sea Kong bait that weighs close to 3 ounces, and various Norman DD22 lures. Which rod would be the best for these applications?
  21. Where can I buy a Carrot Stick? I've decided I want one, but don't know where to buy them. Any suggestions?
  22. Believe it or not I've never watched it! ;D My brother was watching it the other day, and he couldn't believe I've never sat down to watch it. All I know about the movie is that there is something about a secret decoder and a Red Rider BB gun.
  23. I finally watched it, and parts of it were hilarious. I really wish they would do away with the acting 'gay' , things that have to do with their rear ends, and things that come out of their rear ends. ;D If they cut all that out it would go from an A- to an A+ in my opinion. I think the part with Preston Lacey and the 40mm rubber projectile were hilarious. He was hurting so bad it looked like it took a minute for the pain to register.
  24. $300 in BPS gift cards. A new waterproof handheld GPS for the boat. Roughly $250 in various lures and tackle. Clothes, clothes, clothes. A new electric fillet knife, and other various fishing 'essentials'.
  25. Yes. Have you ever found a sweet fishing hole that no one knows about. Then one day you go, and there is someone else there acting like they own the joint? ;D Even though you have been fishing there for the past 10 years. They start telling you what to use, and how to fish.
