Jig Modification

Featured Replies

This will be a very elementary question as well as quickly answered but.......

Has anyone or does anyone place a trailer hook on jigs? (ex: football head jig, swim jig, etc)

Yes, the top photo of a football jig rigged with a trailer, the trailer hook is reversed. Best utilized when the fish are asking for a longer presentation or trailer and it does take some of the movement from the body of the trailer itself, but if the trailer has great claw or appendage action typical to Rage Tails... it works fine. With the hook like this it will hang up more when fishing brush but it is lethal in open water shell, gravel, small rock and open ledges.

It is possible to apply the hook in the normal manner too (Photo below) but that requires a longer than normal presentation as well, or smaller trailer hook, plus hanging the trailer from the bend of the jig hook to place the trailer hook point into the trailer body for weedless application. Hangs up less than the other set up.

With the Swim Jig CRAZE... it's worth checking out!

This technique is not well known at all but I use it when I get several short strikes in a row and feel they're good fish that are striking.

Hope that helps!
