Best Top Water Line

Featured Replies

Just trying to find the best fishing line for fishing poppers. thanks for the help.

Anything but fluorocarbon should be fine. I use 12lb Sten mono on my topwater rod.

I use braid for my poppers. However, my rod is a medium action for my poppers.

I use 8# test Fireline Crystal with a 4' section of 10# test monofilament. The mono floats about as good as the braid. The heavier mono also keeps the hooks from tangling in the braid.

If all you're going to use it for is topwater, I'd stick to mono. It's cheap, readily available, manageable, and it floats.

I like Sufix Elite, Sufix Siege, and Berkley Big Game (in that order), but just about any brand-name mono would work fine.

Braid with 4' - 6' mono or FC leader. Braid has zero stretch making it easier to pop that lure compared to straight mono.

Go with mono, braid sucks for all topwater except frogs because it overworks the lure. I use 10 - 14 pound line for most poppers. Original stren is hard to beat as an all around line, especially when treated often with KVD line and lure conditioner.

I got Lucky Craft Hi-Vis top water line.

Bass Pro Excel Mono... Cheap and Easy lol

I've found nothing works better for me, I just use a short leader, same basic concept.

With braid you gotta use a leader or the lure will often hook the limp braid when you work it. More knots, more chance for error. Mono's stretch will help fight your natural instinct to set the hook before the fish has really got a topwater anyway. Mono all the way.

X2. I don't like the action of a topwater with braid anyway, the lack of stretch makes it so easy to overwork it.
