Dobyns Champion 735C....

Featured Replies

well, this rod has kinda disapointed me a bit. ive given it a few months and im just not happy with it. ive lost more fish on this rod in the 3 or so months ive had than i think i have with any of my other rods. i know how to set a hook and play a fish. i dont have that problem with my other rods and they dont cost me 280+ after taxes. idk what the deal is. all his bein said, does anyone else have this problem with this rod? could i be doin somethin wrong? im planning on selling it tuesday but still might just keep it, idk yet.

I don't really care for Dobyns rods but I know they are a good rod, a little overpriced but a ggod rod still the same. Anyway, what are you using it for? a 5 power rod is pretty stout and depending on what you are using it for could make a difference. From researching the rods and knowing some people that use them I would say that this rod is pretty much a worm and jig rod and perhaps a 4 power would be more verstile, it could be that you may actually be overpowering the fish and pulling the hook free.

yea im feelin the same now. im usin it for jigs, plastics, flippin, pitchin, that stuff. its a 5 power but really doesnt feel like it at all. its got a pretty soft tip.

i love my 735c and haven't had any problems with it. but, rods seem to be highly personal so, if it doesn't float your boat, sell it and try something else until you find the right fit for you and the way you fish.

I have the 735 in both Champion and Savvy and love them. They are my favorite rods.

I use the Champion for flipping/pitching/jigs. The Savvy (which was used previously for those same techniques) is now doing big senkos and heavy t-rigs.

The tips are soft, with the Champion having a slightly faster action, but they both have the power to boat flip 4lb'ers at least.

The 735 has a pretty soft tip for the power of the rod. That's one of the reasons the guys that use them down here like it for moving baits. Makes a hell of a hollow bodied frog rod also. The 736 has a much faster tip, which I personally like more. The 6 power is a beefy rod. It handles all of my frog fishing as well as a good portion of my flipping and pitching into heavy grass.

Give Dobyns a call. Richard will probably be able to set you up with what you need. Great guy to deal with.
