We've got so many lakes and ponds but most are small with limited parking. Being a little secretive helps not having to wake up at 3am on a Saturday in the summer to get a parking spot at your favorite pond. Not telling you what to do but guys aren't just doing it just to be a-holes they've been burned before. Finished cleaning all my reels so I'm ready to go as soon as we get a bit of a warm stretch. This week is looking cold again but not cold enough to lock up more ice I don't think. That said I will probably meep my swimbait and jerkbait setups handy in case I want to shore bang for an hour or two. Fair enough.
Mr. Aquarium
Hit a spot after work,I haven’t been to in years. This being my 3rd time fishing it. I couldn’t hit the whole pond. All my fish were random. Got 1 pickerel and a perch on the HH jerkbait, got 2 bass on the glide. The chunky fish hit on a sunny windblown shore.
Mr. Aquarium
Got onto a weird bite yesterday. I worked the wind line and only caught one 3lber on a glide. They wouldn’t hit, jigs, chatters, lipless cranks or real preys. I got to the calm side tied on a Matt’s 6.5 inch floating strong shad. Ended up getting a 4.5 and bunch of dinks on the glide and shad worked slow on top. Had a few whacks and follows
Frezzy
Pretty much everything in Metro West is open water now. I'm heading out in the Kayak this weekend. Planning on bringing Jerkbaits, Bladebaits, Lipless Cranks and a Jig. Maybe toss a Hudd as well if I get a few bites on the other stuff. What are you guys throwing right after ice out in MA? Mr. Aquarium
I’ve been throwing glides, wake baits and jerkbaits. Only thing that had been working. Bites been tough. Water still ice cold. Got a chatterbait fish the last week of February
Mr. Aquarium
Caught my 2nd biggest bass I’ve ever caught on a jerkbait today. She hit right at sunset on the last few cast. I gave up on the afternoon trip. This was the only bass I caught! 7lbs 10 ounce 22 1/2 inches So the thing with jerkbaits, I had very little confidence in them. I never did well on them never caught anything over 3lbs. My good day on jerkbaits would be 5 2lbers if I’m lucky. But I knew they worked. So I kept fishing them trying to learn and build confidence

Super User DogBone_384 Posted March 10 Super User Share Posted March 10 I checked off March with a white perch in 30' of water in Sharon on a chartreuse sexy shad LV150. I think almost every fish in the lake was on bottom, DEEP, including the trout that were stocked there today. Water temps were 39.x and air pressure was 30.1. To answer @Frezzy ... I'm throwing blade bait and drop shot in deep waters, and shallow cranks, lipless, and jerkbaits when shallow. Once in a while I'll drag a big worm S L O W on the bottom if I can't get a reaction bite. And a big congratulations to @Mr. Aquarium .... an absolute BEAST of a catch today! 7 minutes ago, Mr. Aquarium said: So the thing with jerkbaits, I had very little confidence in them. Spend some time with @Saltysmalljaws .. I fished with him a few times and he got me pointed in the right direction. I'll be on Cape Cod end of this month with the Ranger too .....

Super User DogBone_384 Posted March 11 Super User Share Posted March 11 Took a short trip to a very shallow pond on the South Shore yesterday morning. I threw the normal assortment of jerkbait, chatterbait, and shallow crank, but could't get even a pickerel to play. Water temps were 43.x - 44.x. IT's coming!
Super User DogBone_384 Posted March 14 Super User Share Posted March 14 Spent a couple hours in Canton yesterday. Hooked onto a good LMB on a Table Rock Berkley Stunna jerkbait but didn’t have my drag set properly. The fish was also hooked on the outside of its mouth, so it got off. My consolation prize was a couple scales on the middle treble hook. Water temps were 43.x along the north shoreline.
Frezzy
Took the Kayak out on A1 Site yesterday for about 4hrs. My first time fishing it. Interesting place. Only managed a few dinks on a black/blue JackHammer. Water ranged from 44-49 degrees. Excited to explore this place more this year. Only ventured a little way past the island.

There's tons of stumps past the island so just be careful. Easy to overturn in high winds especially if you bump one wrong.
Super User DogBone_384 Posted March 23 Super User Share Posted March 23 The first half of my week on Cape Cod consisted of 8 ponds over 3 days on my Ranger. I skunked at 4 of them and managed a tiny yellow perch, three picks (all around 2 pounds), and two rainbow trout. I marked fish deep and nothing shallow and threw the normal assortment of blade baits, jerk baits, lipless, small/medium Keitechs, and small jigs. Water temps were 44.x - 46.x at all but one shallow pond that tipped 50.x late in the day. Air pressure started at 30.2 was 30.4 yesterday. I talked to a few other guys and got a mixed bag. A couple said it was tough, one kayaker did well with LMB over 3 pounds, and a last guy with live-scope did very well. I'm going back tomorrow through Sunday and am fishing with @Saltysmalljaws at one of his home ponds. I'm hoping to grab a couple good SMB and NOT to have to bring shiners! I also saw my first Osprey of the season. Best of luck to those getting out...
Mr. Aquarium
Bass bites been horrible. I caught 4 bass last week for a huge bag of 4lbs. But caught 2500 pickerel though. Tuesday was decent. Caught 7 bass nothing over 3lbs and a bunch of big pickerel.

Super User MassYak85 Posted March 24 Super User Share Posted March 24 I'm going out tomorrow for the first time this year. Hitting the lake I grew up fishing so I'm optimistic I can put something together. I just gotta remember to not force anything. Hoping for a good jerkbait bite or if I'm lucky a chatterbait bite. Don51
Throw a rattle bait into the mix also. 🤔

MassBass
5 hours ago, Mr. Aquarium said: Is that a big fish bait? I have some but don’t use em often I fear I will only catch dinks and pickerel It's a legitimate concern. But if the rattle bait bite is on, you can pull a big bite. A big lake is the best water for a rattlebait. Most water I have fished in MA I wouldn't call ideal rattlebait water. I will say one time I went to Mascoppic lake, caught two high 4s on a rattlebait. Super User MassYak85 Posted March 25 Super User Share Posted March 25 Made it out today. It was colder and windier than I hoped. The bite was on though and I found them right where I hoped. Most fell to a vision 110 in perch, but I was able to pull a few extra from those areas jigging a lipless. Had a split bag of largies and smallies which is unusual for the lake I was on. Got 7 in total, lost at least 3 more that I think got the jerkbait hooks on the outside of their face. Also got a couple pickerel and a crappie. Pretty good day to start it off, but nothing over 3lbs.

Mr. Aquarium
Fished hard last night in the kayak. 7pm-1 am. Lot of dead water. Missed a couple of fish on the PG. Kept working my way, popped a 5-10 on the Ds customs Ninja Wake at an isolated weed patch. Found a weedy point. Got another 5-7, a 3 and missed a giant again all on the DS ninja wake. They wouldn’t hit, the slammer, crawler, glide, a rat, or PG.
MassBass
I had a good outing, with the strong west wind and a spinnerbait. Got a big at 4lbs. Then I set up for carp and got a couple. I'll post those on the other species thread to stay relevant over there 😉
