Super User DogBone_384 Posted August 14 Super User Share Posted August 14 Took a couple short trips the last few days. The first was my home pond. I threw a 1/2 ounce punch jig, 6.8" Keitech, a frog, and a Yamamoto Kut Tail. The jig netted me a 2 pound LMB from a hole between the lili pads and a rock. Water temps were 81.x Yesterday's trip was to Plymouth. One LMB liked a 5" perch Senko. The rest of the crew, 2 more LMB and 1 SMB smashed a perch 3XD. I lost a good smallie on a pink/clear tube in 30' and a bigger 'who knows what' that crushed a Shimano Flash Boost deep jerkbait. Number two was lost because of line failure. Water temps were 79.x. Fall is fast approaching!

Super User MassYak85 Posted August 16 Super User Share Posted August 16 I fished today with my dad in central MA. I had an awesome summer worm bite going on the 10" black power worm. Probably got 15-20 fish and all very solid 2 to 3lbers, capped it off with a 5-0. My dad started us off strong in the morning with a 5-1 on the psycho gill and did some damage as well on a jig.
Super User DogBone_384 Posted August 17 Super User Share Posted August 17 I finally got @Fishing Rhino out on his Nitro yesterday. We stayed pretty close to his home, fishing a big, shallow, crowded lake. It didn't matter, Tom was out fishing. The best part of all is he nabbed a nice 4_1 LMB on one of his favorite soft baits. So you old timers out there ... ... Tom's still at it.
ne_dan
Been fishing all summer haven’t posted in a while. Fall is definitely fast approaching, fish are getting their feed bag on. Went out to the local river today. Water is still a little low, water temp in the low 70s. Fished a 1/2oz jig along the bank where it drops from 1’-10’, picked up about 15 bass, all fat. Capped of the trip with a 5.2lb bass on the jig, thought it was a pike at first the way it just went deep when I set the hook.
Super User DogBone_384 Posted August 23 Super User Share Posted August 23 Dropped into my home pond around supper time. I kept it simple: no electronics, a frog, jig, T-rigged worm, and Zoom Fluke. My weather APP said the winds would die down by 1700 hours, but no go. Winds were 8-10 from the West, which makes for a fast drift. The water level is also down a lot from a month ago, making the weeds meet the surface over most of the pond. I don't think I stayed even two hours. I managed one LMB, a shade under two pounds, on the jig. Good enough just to beat the skunk.
Super User MassYak85 Posted August 23 Super User Share Posted August 23 My trip out last weekend I noticed a lot of concentrated baitfish activity around the most lively and thick weedbeds and the bass seemed to be in lock step. I actually had one bass spit up some baby bass from this spring! I doubt all the bait we saw were bass fry but definitely a few of the smaller schools. Of course we caught them on thing that didn't resemble baby ass at all haha. I even switchd to a small bladed spinnerbait at one point to try and match the hatch a bit better but they didn't want it. Sometimes you just gotta stick with what is working and not overcomplicate it. The cooler nights are definitely here and that switch to the fall bite will be here before we know it. I'm hoping to do more fishing in september but it's traditionally been a tough month for me.
Super User DogBone_384 Posted September 4 Super User Share Posted September 4 Yep ... September's here. I hit 3 ponds in Plymouth today, netting two PB's. I caught my first tiger trout and a 2.79 brown trout. I also nabbed 3 LMB, with the biggest just a shade under three pounds and one SMB that came in at 2.73 pounds. Everyone was caught in 20' or deeper water. Brownie ate a Tennessee shad Zako paddle tail, tiger whopped a perch 3XD, and everyone else took a 1/4 oz micro jig with a Tiny Paca Chunk trailer. All in all a good day. Water temps were 75.x - 76.x, winds were 5-10 from the E / SE, and air pressure was 30.3.
Super User MassYak85 Posted Tuesday at 05:40 PM Super User Share Posted Tuesday at 05:40 PM Tactical Bassin had a video recently that kind of legitimized something I've felt for a while but couldn't quite pinpoint. Essentially that the fall transition starts earlier than we think and as soon as those first few colder nights hit the fish start behaving differently. My last couple outings even going back into mid august the bait seemed to be acting different and the fish were just a bit off. I have struggled in the past this time of year but I think it has been in tandem with my unwillingness to fish deeper. I have been having more luck on those deeper weed edges or edges of flats in spots the weeds are most healthy and attract the most baitfish. Everywhere else has felt like dead water. Every year there's always that one tree on the shoreline that has it's leaves changing super early and I think that's really the first hint. Nature knows what's coming and I'm sure the fish do too. I saw that TB video too. The last few outings were good, including today, where all but one of my fish was between 20'-30'. Like you, I've not taken the time to fish deeper until recently. I fished Plymouth today, netting 4 decent SMB and one THICK, 21" LMB that had to be over 4 pounds, even though my Rapala scale said was 3.17. I lost two decent bass too. A 3/8 oz green/light green jig, 3.3" paddle tail, and 1/4 oz micro jig were most successful. I nabbed one good smallie and two small yellow perch on a HT-ITO Wakasagi V110+1. Water temps are still in the mis 70's. Winds were light. It was almost bluebird today.
