Eastern Ma Fishing Reports

I was able to get out and fish for about an hour and a half yesterday after work and manage 6 fish ranging from 2 lbs to a little less than a lb. Nothing big, but fun none the less. I was using a Siebert Outdoors bizmouth alloy jig head with my own hand tied skirt and a Power Team Lures grub with a little Megastrike dabbed on.

I was using the Tuff Line Supercast 20# braid (free 100 yd spool) tipped with a PLine CXX leader. The grub you see on the jig is a very durable grub as it caught all my fish yesterday as well as 6 or 7 from a previous outing. I recommend these lures if you haven't tried them yet and not just the grubs, they have a really nice line up for reasonable prices. The Tuff Line braid is my third outing using it and although I'm very happy thus far with it, I will reserve comment until I'm able to go out and fish it a few more times. So far, I really like it.

Good luck all!

Spent a couple of hours on Webster Lake today after the rain stopped...caught a 2.5 LMB with a Wiggle Wart in Crawdad, against a 5' drop off, casting parallel to shore and cranking very slowly...nice fish but the only Bass....3 Pickerel and a Rainbow Trout, rounded out the trip until the 15 mph west wind chased me off the lake. They are reluctantly, starting to bite. Today, slow and easy won the day.

Couple of hours on Whitehall got 3 LMB, 10 pickerel, 3 sunfish, and 2 perch. The wife caught half and I caught half. Every fish was caught bouncing 3" sluggos off the bottom.

Sounds like it was a fun day, grandpa. Nothing like getting out on a day like this and wih your better half. Congrats to you both!

I ended my work week at Houghton's for 1 1/2 hours today. Earlier in the day I noticed some snapping turtles sun bathing, so I figured that it would be worth the stop. The water surface temps were a lot warmer than last Sunday when Dillon, my son and I went last. I decided to throw a lipless crank with a rip/reel retrieve. I was able to get a couple of pickerel and a nice LMB:

I didn't get a weight on her, but she was a lot of fun none the less. I saw her come out of the water and I could't tell if it was a bass or not, so I threw over in the general direction and "thud", no doubt about it, it was a healthy bass.

I was purchasing some skirt material from Janns Netcraft and noticed that they had a new line of Lipless Cranks on sale for $2.15/ea so I picked up 4 along with some #4 hooks for the belly and #6 for the tail. They have a triangular weight that fills the whole nose of the bait from about the gill plate to the tip giving this bait a real nose down attitude. I figured for $2.15/ea why not? Man, that was a real nice bait that caught the above fish. Here's a pic of the lipless I used:

(this was uploaded to my gallery, anyone know how to get rid of the BR logo?)

If your in the market for some lipless cranks, I highly recommend these. They work very well on a lift drop retrieve because of the nose down attitude, they can be fished slow and fast with no problems and they have a bit of a "hunt" on the retrieve. Give em a whirl!

Good luck all!

Water is 68 deg and beds are starting to get old with a few fish still active. Jigs tight to shore and resting, seemed to be the ticket yesterday on Cochituate. Don't forget to release fish immediately for spawn.

Thanks grampa, I was just going to PM you to ask how you did and to get info on the spawn...oh well, I guess I missed the spawn again this year.

It's great to hear you guys got out yesterday, I hope you had a great day.

Take care all

grampa1114 and I fished Cochituate today from 10:00 am to about 3:00 pm. I must say that fishing with grampa was pretty boring...He caught all the fish and we had a lot of laughs. Alright so I told a white lie, I had a great time and couldn't be happier with the outing we just had.

I had 3 fish come off a lipless crank and 3 missed fish on a jig. I did manage 1 bass on a jig and 1 pickerel on a lipless crank. grampa cleaned my clock as he got at least 6 or 7 bass, 4 or 5 crappie and at least that many pickerel.

He fishes with a 3" Fluke on a 1/16 oz ball head made on a #4 hook. I would have never in my life would have thought that a rig that small would entice the bass and pickerel sizes he caught. My hats off to grampa as I have learned a great deal today watching him fish such a light rig.

Thank you grampa for fishing with me. I had a lot of laughs today and had a great time.

I'll post up some pics later tonight.

I'm in the Boston area and have had pretty good luck at the Blue Hills Reservoir.  It's close to home, never crowded, and convenient for a quick hour or two between jobs.  It's located on Chickatawbut road, at the top of the hill if you're coming from Granite Street, Braintree or Wampatuck road, Quincy.  Lots of smaller largemouth, my best there is just over 2 lbs.

Had a nice night for like 2 and a half hours until the bugs started to attack relentlessly. Found a small honey hole litteraly kept casting off the dock into the same spot. Got 4 pickerel and 3 bass. This being the biggest.

I think that it's fair to assume that everybody is busy fishing. The weather has been fairly stable for a couple of days now and the fish seem to have settled into their summer patterns...what ever that might be for your lake. Most of my fish have been caught during morning...not early morning...just morning...and with the weed cover that most of the lakes are witnessing this year..I've caught most fish out in the weedy flat areas but there are still plenty to be had on the first drop off. They don't seem too picky about what they'll hit either. They seem to be willing to hit something run across the top of the water as well as across the tops of the weeds and just as likely...deep in the weeds or along the edges. Rivers will be calming down in a week or so and with a bit of caution should be ready to produce big time. I must say that the fish that my friends and I have been catching are above normal size. Ok that's my fishing report...What's yours?

Grampaaa!!!  Hope all is well.

Haven't done as much fishing as I'd like but there does seem to be more vegetation for this time of year, and the fish are definately taking advantage of it.
