Tieing Feathered Treble Hooks

How hard and time consuming is doing is?

I have been thinking about getting a small set up, nothing fancy to do some cool treble hooks. They are kinda pricey and with them getting torn up on my top water rigs all the time, its about the same price to just buy another popper.

It's very easy, but for me it was too time consuming at the time. But it is fun to make your own, and they'll last longer than store bought. I may buy another set up as well now that I'm fishing top waters a lot more. Of course, way more options tying your own.

It isn't hard at all, you just need some feathers or hackle, thread, bobbin, vise and a small pair of scissors. The first couple you do will be rough but you can always cut it out and do it over but once you get a few it will be like riding a bike and the best part is you can off set the cost by doing it for other people, dressed trebles are real popular now due to a lot of baits coming with them and the replacements aren't what I would call cheap. If you go to Captain Hooks Discount Warehouse you can get a good price on a bunch of trebles and after you replace a few the set up will pay for itself.

I'ts very easy and you really don't need real expensive equipment to do it either, in my opinion. I'm still using my starter equipment I got about 15 years ago when I started tieing flies. The trebles you put on your topwaters certainly changes the profile and look of the bait. Most store bought dressed trebles are "overdone" in my opinion, by doing your own you can put the right amount of material without affecting the action of the bait, especially on dog walking type baits.
