I'm thinking about upgrading to a foot operated motor on my 14' boat. The price looks good but you know for a few bucks more there is always something better... I was looking to throw about $650 at it but I will also need another battery.

I have a 45# 12v now and it has enough power but hey bigger is always better.

So I guess what I'm asking is does anyone have this model or recommend something semi close in price .

I have the 75 lb on my 19' tin and rarely use the highest speed. usually 2 or 3. 24v is the way to go. not only for power but you can stay on the water for much longer, even at full speed. the digitals (tour) are better but cost twice as much. I want to replace mine with an 82lb Tour but just can't justify it.

I've got the 70 or 75 pound thrust Motorguide on my Z-8. It's the same unit I had on my Z-7. It's a five speed unit, and most of the time it's on 1 or 2. The only time I boot it up higher is if I want to move a hundred yards or so and don't want to fire up the big engine.

Is your 14 footer aluminum. If so, you'll probably use more battery life fighting the wind than I would on my 8. I know I drain the battery a lot faster on my canoe with a 50 pound Minkota on windy days. I agree with you going to the foot control. It lets you spend a lot more time fishing since your hands are free to use your fishing pole.

I'm thinking about upgrading to a 18' with a console maybe another green one maybe a bass tracker... My favorite lake is on 5 miles of gravel so I don't need anything nice.

Anyhow I want to be able to use this on another boat in the future if needed.
