I currently have a 7.1 Citica spooled with 50lb braid. I fish some weeds/slop but nothing super thick. I want the ability to throw a frog but want a set up that will be able to throw jigs and soft plastics as well (which is what I will throw more often). Is 50lb braid too much? Or should I lighten up the line? Thanks in advance.

I like 50lb, i use to use a lot of 30lb but it was so thin and kinda dug into the spool more than the 50lbs does. I really like the powerpro slick.

#40-#50 is great all around.

I use 30 on my chronarch and 50 on my old accurist pt and my my revo sx, all green power pro.

For me it's overkill, big rods, hvy line, winching fish isn't sporting enough for me, not even in the realm of consideration, 15# braid max.

Right, which is why I bought 50#. I just didn't know if I would be busting fish's mouths with higher lb test. How do I accurately set the drag so I don't rip the lures out every time?

Ok, thanks RW. Is there a rule of thumb I can use for different lb test? What if I had 65, 30, etc? Sorry for all the questions. I'm not that familiar with braided line. Are there any good resources I can read/watch?

Set the drag for a 1/3 of the rated pounds for mono or flouro. When using braid, I go by the diameter of mono it's equal to and set it to a 1/3 of that Example: 30# braid is the equivalent diameter of 8# mono so I set my drag for 8#.... This how I do it, not how everyone does it.

50 lb should serve you well. I'd look at the diameter, not the lb test.

I like to throw into weeds and brush. I would rather have too heavy of a line than not heavy enough.
