Hook sizing.

Featured Replies

Hello.

I have been looking to buy some hooks online and am confused on how the sizing scale goes with the 1s and 2s and such. I looked for sizing charts on line and found a few but they were not very helpful.

Thank you.

there is a "general" requirement for specific length and gap size, but you can compare hooks of the same "size" from different manufacturers and see several different length and gaps. One companys 2/0 may be another companys 1/0

the scale starts with larger numbers like 12 which would be small hooks mostly for trout flies then as you move up to 2's then 1's you cross over to the designation of \0 called O or aught. So its sort of like crossing from negative numbers to postive 1\0 is bigger than a number 1 but 2\0 is bigger than a 1\0

and like nwflmike said those sizes vary among manufacturers so just find a size a hook you like and that works for you

Hope this helps :)
