Abu Garcia Rod?

Featured Replies

Ok so I am looking at an Abu Garcia Vendetta2 casting model in Medium action. So there are two of them, one is a medium action, fast taper, 6'9". The other is a medium action in 7' with a moderate fast tip (not moderate, moderate fast.) Yes, many of you will probably say about this reel or rod being bad but I'm going to pair it up with a Black Max, for now until i get into this more. I have read many good reviews on both the rod and the reel. My question is what would be the better rod to use for many different applications, like plastics (texas rig mostly), maybe a little bit of jigging, and cranking, etc. You know good all around. Right now i have a TFO spinning rod fast tip for dropshot and other things i can find to do with it. Much help would be appreciated. I don't want to get into very technique specific at the moment so i want a good choice. If you would like to add any info, opinions, etc, i would like to hear.

Thanks

Med ModFst. Abu lines of rods tend to be a little stiffer for their ratings, so you should be good for just about anything with that rod.

If you are going to do more t-rigging and jig fishing i'd get the 6'9" fast action rod.

If you do more crankbait fishing than get the 7' mf action.

Go with the 7' like LMG said Abu is notorious for being a bit stiffer than their rating.  I have that same rod, but original Vendetta and it's a work horse.

Nothing wrong with that rod/reel combo if you are just starting out. I tell everybody if you are just getting in to itm dont invest too much. Sounds like a combo that you can do anything with. Its a very versitile rod/reel combo.

Yes Abu's are on the stiff side, but they are good rods.

I like the actions of the rods, but I stick with the Vendetta's, once you have some time into them they become great performers. I am sure you get more reliable actions/quality with the top of the line models of Abu rods, but I am not shelling out 180 to find out right now.

Also since my local store doesn't carry the one i want, does anyone know if a rod from ***.com should be in good shape you know, pretty reputable for sending out good rods that the blanks aren't bent, or crooked guides and what-not

I can't trust people with my rods or reels either lol, but if I have to I'll order rods and reels online.

im with lgmouth i wont buy a rod or reel i cant put in my hands

There have been plenty of fish hauled in with a Zebco 33 so don't down play your gear. It will work just fine. 80% of my fishing gear is Abu Garcia and as previously stated they do tend to be stiffer than rated but I love them. I have several Vendettas and Veritas. 6'9 Medium ought to be fine.
