ok so i have not really been seriously into fishing in the past but would like to start learning about it. so my question is what type of line, and what weight. and what types of baits would you through with these 2 rods.

 

1) Quantum nitrous nic661m 6'6" medium action with a 6:2:1 casting reel

 

2) Berkley lightning rod lrs601m 6" medium spinning rod, with a 5:1:1 mitchell spinning reel

1. shallow crankbait, weightless tex rig and light jigs maybe (what are the ratings?), buzzbait (lighter), put 10-12# copolymer line or 30/50 lb braid with leader when applicable. 

2. jerkbait and drop shot, shaky head - 6-8 lb Copolymer or 10/20 lb braid with leader

 

Personally I would prefer a MH and longer 7' rod that would give you a better all around/purpose setup.  The first 1 can be an all around depending on the rating, but I find most mediums at around here wouldn't be able to hack it due to cover/structure.  Now if you don't have that issue where you are, you may have no issues with that setup.  If you can, I'd get a 3rd rod as I described and then you would have 3 setups and would cover all the different techniques.  If you search the forum you can find some good threads on this subject.  I think the last one was called Perfect Arsenal. 

i am actually wanting to get another rod that is 7"+, just wanted to hear what i sould be using the ones i already have. then get one that covers the baits that mine didnt

so if the first one covers shallow cranks and texas rigs and light jigs. the second covers jerk baits and drop shot.

 

i would like to have more of a spinnerbait, jig rod, or deep cranking rod

A 7' MH/F Rod would cover those areas.  For deep cranking it might not be the most ideal, but it would work.  A MH rod would be the best overall/all purpose setup.

Just as an example, from my current setups if I could only take 3, I'd take the following -

 

1. Veritas - 7'3" MH/F - Quantum Energy - 30lb Braid 6.2.1 as my all purpose rod - Jigs, worms, frog, flipping/pitching, spinnerbait, buzzbait, deep crank..etc.

2. Compre - 7'2" M/F - Curado50E - 10lb floroclear - lighter plastics, shallow cranks, jerk baits..basically a lighter version of no.1

3. Airrus - 6'7" MH/F (Although rated that, it acts more like a medium) - Abu Garcia 302 10 lb braid - for drop shot etc.lighter stuff that a baitcaster can't handle. 

 

If you buy a MH/F rod, you would have it all covered.

in what situations would you tie on a leader to braid. certain baits? certain cover? ect. and would you use a monocarbon or what type of line for the leader?
