The rumor is a new reel will be introduced, according to another board a guy is on the inside and testing the new reels.  He can't say much other than that it's awesome and it's going to fill a gap with the current model.  Another rumor is that the Chronarch is getting an update too, all will be announced at iCast 2013.  I guess it's a pretty good assumption that there will be something new this year.

As for G being terrible without "really" using it on the water is a worthless opinion.  Sorry no offense, but you shouldn't review something you don't use.  I have 3 of them and they work just as well as my E series and can't complain.  They are still work horse reels and are main stays in my arsenal.

Cheaper manufacturer? Shimano IS the manufacturer, they own the facility and they produce no other companies reels in either facility.

Secondly, the Malaysian facility has better tolerances than the Japan facility because the machine tools are newer.

Lastly, I've had zero problem with the G series, in Curado or Chronarch and I have two dozen or more of them. The reviews, I'm near certain, that have given them bad press are from people that have never used them, and are comparing them solely to the Curado E; which is apples and oranges an there have been more than plenty of threads here about that.

Well IMHO the new G series are absolutely terrible. That being said I can only go off reviews and holding it in store. E series although, top notch!

Apparently Shimano had gone to a cheaper manufacturer for the new G series, and has now realized they made a huge mistake and will go back to making quality products.

So, I can't tell you if there will be a new series, I hope so because I forsure will be a customer!

LOL!!!! It's terrible, well, I have never used it, just throwing that out there because of something I read on the internet.

Sometimes the bean counters get to override the guys in the engineering department and the fact no one realized how much they were gonna miss the Chronarch D until they were all gone.

This is the EXACT info I was told by a tackle shop owner who actually went to Malaysia and toured the factory. He said it was an amazingly clean and modern factory.

I'm not an "insider" by any stretch of the imagination but I was told 2014 ICAST will be the year for the new Curado and Chronarch's.

I don't think anyone is bashing the G series because of their perfomance. In fact, you could purchase the Citica's, add a bearing or two and it will keep up with the Curado in every way. Shimano fans are disappointed in what they did to the most beloved reel, the Curado. I understand they had to make changes, but the solution they came up with wasn't very good, especially when everyone was looking forward to something cool before ICAST.

The Chronarch D didn't sell very well, so Shimano decided to discontinue it.

I am lucky enough to have a Chronarch D and I can see why they are hard to get, it's a tank and smooth as butter.

Shimano IMO merely wanted to cash in more on the success of the Curado E.  Since everyone loved the reel, they kept it going merely as a re-branded chronarch hoping people would continue to purchase them knowing they were getting a beloved Curado E.  If you look at it that way, they have kept their most popular reel going for longer than usual.

The problem is they attempted to fill the new void with a reel that, all be it a good solid reel, isn't up to part with what people expected.  As for being made in Malaysia, I don't really have a problem with it as long as the product works.  Lew's reels are built overseas and have been nothing but exceptional for me.  Just because something is made in Japan doesn't mean it is automatically better than everything else, though one can assume the quality is there.

I would expect to see some of that micro gearing coming across the pond....... i.e. Antares and Metanium.

I forgot which thread it was, but someone made the comment.  Instead of calling it a Curado G, if they named it line XYZ and kept the Curado in a different line/price range.  People would've stated XYZ is an awesome BUY!  Casts like a Curado and performs just as well.  At the MSRP of 159, it's a steal!  I totally agree that would've happened.

I have thrown both the E and G series curado. Worlds different and anyone who claims otherwise is just being silly. My h2o mettle is more solid than the G. With that being said, Shimano has a pretty hardcore fanbase (see this site and many others) who would buy their reels whatever the cost. Why not leave the elite reels alone and keep the quality high? Manufacture other reels to fill the gaps in the price market. The chronarch is still a great reel, and the higher you go the better you get. I am sure there are tons of people (like me) who would not mind paying an extra 100 bucks to get a better quality Curado or Chronarch.

I haven't thrown the curados but i do own both the E & G citicas and i have no complaints with either of them and any performance differences isn't noticeable by me at least.

Also is it even fair to compare the E curado to the G as the price points are completely different?  If i remember correctly weren't the Gs around 200 and the Es in the 150 range?

I think most people making disparaging remarks against the Shimano G series reels, are not necessarily condemning

the reels. They are simply mad at, and dissapointed in Shimano. They fell that they have been betrayed, and that

Shimano has let them down. Just my thoughts. I have 2 of the G series reels and think they are great.

Actually should be reversed.  Gs are in the 150s and Es closer to 200.

Total BS statement. They sold very well.

The Chronarch D is a gem.  The E series curados are great, but I sold mine eventually.  The Chronarch will never go lol.  If the introduce a chronarch that is anything close to the D, I will switch to them entirely.
