What is the idea behind the self-cinch clip on a drop shot weight? Typically on the cylindrical style weights. I was looking for a good article online to explain this but found nothing.  The only thing I can think of is so the knot won't travel around the eyelet however tying the weights with fluoro have actually snapped when cinching to the self-cinch type.

So you can pull a hung up weight without losing the rig, and also to adjust the dropper length on the fly.

So you're meant to tie the knot just above the rounder portion (closer to the weight) so that if you're hung up it will clip the line and in return save the hook/bait? Am I understanding that right?  Why do I feel like 10lb braid would slip its way through it, or am i wrong.

You don't tie any knot, just slip the line through, and pull the link into the crimp.  We're talking about the same thing, right?

Yes sir. That clears up a whole lot John. I appreciate the feed back.  Those won't come flying off with a small diameter line huh?  Guess I'm going to have to trust it.

They will, occasionally, but we pour our own.  What you can do is put single overhand knot at the bottom of your tag end as a stopper.  You can also squeeze the crimp with pliers tighter if it pulls through too easy.

I actually have a lot better success keeping the weights on 4 to 8 pound test than I do on 17 pound test.  I have to tie the cheater knot on the heavy line, not that I use heavy line for dropshotting very often 

No problems coming off the light lines. If you are not careful when you pull it "tight" in the crimp you can break it easy enough though (mostly Floro), just FYI.

For get the DS weight, tie a split ring below an upside down bullet weight, bro.
