Hello,

 

I am going to try a Slip Bobber with Jig for Crappie this weekend. I have never used one but have watched a few videos and it seems pretty clear how to set it up.

 

My question though is:

 

If I am doing a slow retrieve, won't the line and jig be pulled up to the bobber and not stay at my set depth ?

 

I appreciate any feedback.

Use either an orange or pink bobber stop and watch it as you retrieve making sure it doesnt leave the top of the bobber. 

 

 

99% of the time I do better without the bobber, just throwing small jigs on light line.

Hey, thanks for the advice. Finally went fishing today with some jigs w/o bobber and caught my first Crappie. Tail looked a little beat up though, must have been in a fight or something.

NICE FISH! 

 

The tail on that fish looks cut. Was it on public water? maybe the DNR or somebody is doing net surveys. That is usually how they mark the caught fish, they cut a section of the tail off so they can be sure not to count that fish twice.

Thanks for the info, I was unaware of that practice. Yes it was caught in public water the Delaware & Raritan Canal.

Bigger problem with bobbers is the wind.  The wind it may push the bobber around faster than you want it to move.
