Powell Diesel Rod

Featured Replies

Anyone have any experience with the powell diesel 7'2 MH XF casting rod? I have a chance to pick one up fairly cheap and would like some input. This would be a pitching rod. What is the weight and sensitivity like?

I have it and the 7'6 plus 2 spinning rods. It weighs more then the max and endurance. It's not super heavy but noticeable. Takes a heavier reel to balance it out properly or it feels tip heavy.

The sensitivity isn't bad. Obviously it's a $50 rod so you can't be expecting too much but it fishes better then that really. I'd buy another if mine broke.

I have one with a Chronarch 200DSV with 50lb PowerPro super slick on it. I throw frogs and pitch with it. Good rod for the price!

its an really good rod for the price. i would recommend!

I think this phrase sums it up:  "It's a good rod for the price."  And the price should be $50.  I have that rod and have yet to "favor" it.  It would be the last rod in my arsenal of 20 set ups to use.

I think its best use is to have it to furnish a fishing partner who didn't bring a rod.

It is not particularly sensitive; it feels like a stick.  It might be best used for pitching and flipping, as I've used it.  I would have no sleepless nights over its breaking.

Finally,.......you can do better.   Unless you can get it for $30.

Other opinions may vary.   EVERY rod I have is better than the Diesel.

I bought it this spring by the advice of fellow BR members, I love it. Super versatile rod, I love it for spinnerbaits, jigs, lipless, worms, everything. Super good rod in my opinions
