Abu Garcia Orange Max

Featured Replies

anyone ever use this reel, Is just a standard max reel with the bling or is a good reel. I am drooling over it, but don't want to over pay just for a fancy pieces but a graphite case

Didnt know they made such a thing. Quick google it looks pretty sweet. I also notice it is can be used in saltwater so seems to me that is the extra $$ over a pro max

yes, love that orange, I am a sucker for it, if I get the info on the frame from the seller or yall, I think I may splurge

I can't find anything on it on the abu website but it looks pretty sweet

I CAN'T FIND IT!!!! Anyone else use a Blue Max?

I saw a couple of those orange max's on ebay, almost always out of hongkong. I am wondering if they are an asian only reel or if they are just a knock/off using abu's name?

With that being said, they do look really cool. Little out of my price range though, the couple I saw were pushing $200.

Good point, I assumed they are a Asia/Australia model or something. The site I found them on was angler house Web pageBut the site looks foreign and leaves no obvious clue to country of origin. They are selling for 129 and I saw auctions in the 140's but deffinately not much info.

Thanks for the links. Abu actually makes two Blue Maxs. The one for the UK that you posted a link for and one that they sell at Academy.

Looks just like a black max only blue. Specs are pretty much the same.

Honestly that one looks cheap, almost like the old quantum code reels. Not saying it wont work good, just looks ugly IMO.

Same specs but has saltwater parts. It's what I used to learn a baitcaster and still works great. I love it.

thanks guys, so with graphite frames, pretty much blinged crap

I wouldnt call it crap. I would say it is a lower quality reel that has some "feature" parts on it to make it stand out but not really increase performance. I can think of dozens of reels that are worse than any of the max's.

I've had 2 graphite reel bust on me, not crap but for the price of an orange, I can think of a dozen reels less than that way better :)

Exactly. I'd speculate to say that any American that buys an orange max is doing it for the colors or to have something exotic to show off to his friends. A waste of $140 IMO, but still.. if I had the money to waste I'd probably have one.

Alternatively you could probably take a pro max and start fabricating parts for it (new handle, upgrade bearings, titanium spool, etc) and then have the frame custom painted orange/black and still come out under $150 with a reel that is 10 times what the orange max would be.

Is there a spinning reel orange max too?

You are necro-ing a 6 year old post to ask if it comes in a spinning version?  Just google it man...
