I am wanting to get me a Duckett rod. I am going to try to get dual purpose type deal so I can do a little of a couple things right now. Eventually I'll change it to a single purpose only. But right now the dollars are what they are and I can get one.

 

My main purpose for the rod will be Flipping and Pitching. Secondary purpose will be some top water work. Hollow body snagproof frogs, SPRO frogs etc.

And before the "there are better rods for the money than the Duckett" thing gets brought up. I am set on these because they are white and they are 25% off at a local store of mine, so I'll be getting it for around $125 out the door. 

I would say a 7'0 h would work or 7'3 mh

I would go with a MH in the Duckett rods unless you are fishing some seriously thick nasty cover.

A 7'0" Heeavy would be perfect. Maybe a 7'6" Heavy if you're in to longer rods. I used to have a 7'0" H and loved it. It snapped when I set the hook. I sent it to TW and got the 7'6" H in return and I'm happy with it.

I'll be hooking the big daddies out of Lake Guntersville... flipping and pitching into the holes in the Hydrilla. 

 

That said, Medium Heavy or a Heavy? Nobody has mentioned the Extra Heavy yet... so now I'm leaing 7' Heavy... or 7'6 Heavy...

7'6" Heavy for sure! You get that extra leverage when setting the hook.

As I said it before, Duckett rods aren't that good.  The micro guide are too small.  For some odd reason, they seem to wear out braid line fast.  Tying a leader is also bad too.

Why are the guides too small? Why are they not good? What makes them that way? Give some insight so he can see a true reason why you don't like them. Give some detail. Yes you can't tie a leader which I hate. I have has no issues with braid whatsoever on my ducketts. I've used 50-65lb braid with no problems at all. Are you sure it's not from wood, rocks, or anything else?

My biggest problem with them is the inserts coming out of the guides. They have on every duckett ive ever had but other than that i havent really had any other problems. I also fish guntersville and personally i would want the xh to.

Try being more specific with your details? Guides can fall out of any rod at any time. That's why you've got a 20 year warranty with your Duckett.

I had mine for close to 2 years and I sold them off.  It's like I said, they wear out braided line fast.  I know for a fact because I have other baitcasting rod with larger micro guide and it doesn't wear them out the same way.  

 

I'm sure you notice it when you put in new line and cast it a couple of time.  You can see the color and wax start to come off and stick on that white pole.  Especially if you were using Green.  You'll notice it close to the micro guide were you see the fiber of the braided line being teared.  

 

I don't see this on any other larger micro guide rod that I use.

Nope. Never seen that and I use 65lbs PowerPro braid. I never use a leader either as I'm either fishing a frog, or pitching into heavy wood. The waters I fish are stained, so I'm okay with tying right to the lure.

Braid in general will lose its color fairly quickly. I also have a veritas with regular guides that the braid is turning white from green. That's just what braid does.

I fish a tournament once a month and other than that dad and I hit the water maybe once a week.. once every two weeks at most. So, it's not like I'll be putting it through it's paces. 

 

I think it'll hold up fine for what I do.
