I've only seen one video where the side plate was removed to see the breaking system on the new Ci4 Chronarch. It wasn't attached to the reel like the previous line of reels. Was this because it was a demo model, or are the new models not attached?

The Ci4+ side plate removes totally I can attest to that.  Unless I broke it?
