I've decided that I am getting a Chronarch, absolutely positive of it.

 

BUT..

 

 

I can't decide whether I should get the 200 size or the 50.

 

I'm going to use it mainly as a jiggin' setup, with some part time duty casting superflukes when they're on bed because that seems to be my money bait.

 

 

I don't really flip heavy cover so it'll be on a Med H rod fishing 1/4 to 3/4 oz jigs being the heaviest thing it ever sees.

 

With all that being said, is the 50E a better choice for what I've described, I don't mind the size of my Curado 200E but is the smaller more palmable 50e worth the smaller spool and shorter handles?

 

And is the smaller spool harder or easier to skip a jig with?

That's a hard question to answer. I have both and heavier jigs, cranks and plastics felt like it overloaded the reel. Made a harsh buzzing sound when I made a cast. I use it now for top water and small jerk bait flukes etc and it feels perfect. It palms really well too.

That said, the 200 size is hard to beat too. It's only 3/4oz heavier and feels really good in my small hands too

I have both, and use both for everything. No restrictions on either reel. Never had a problem.

The advantage of the 200 is that you can get it in a 7 speed.

Get the 50 now and save your money and then get a 200. I think the 50 is a little more versatile, but only by a small margin. The 200 opens up more possibilities for bigger lures.

I've been using more 50's instead if my 200's for almost every technique.

Get them both. you won't regret it.

I am probably going to end up with 3-4 Chronarchs but I don't want a reel that's gonna stress over jigs, biggest jigs I fish are 3/4 plus trailer and that's rare, I like 1/4 and 1/2 oz jigs way better for skipping and pitching. Softer entry slower sinking.

Have no problem with 1/2 oz jigs and lures with my 50. I have a 200 as well, but the 50 is a little more comfortable, and casts the 1/4 stuff a little better. You can't go wrong either way, but I'd opt for the 50 first if you don't need a 7.1

Looks like it's gonna be a 50, my Curado is an E7 so I have the 7.1 covered for now.

 

I'm gonna buy it from academy so if I don't like it I can return it for the 200 no questions asked.

Or you could wait for the Labor day sale and snag one for 15-20% off at an online retailer like TW, BTD, or THUT.

When buying reels I look at several of the same model and select the smoothest one.

Also Shimano is excluded from most (not all) % off sales.

Just call them and they will do the discount over the phone. I haven't had an issue with them not.

I am sure you have resolved this already but them most important thing you should consider is line size and capacity and what you will need it for. Both will throw jigs of those weights just fine.  One will work better with heavy line and long casts vs the other, etc. etc.

I like fishing fluorocarbon.

 

I think 12 or 14 lb fluoro has the same diameter as 10lb mono.

 

But I don't want to stress the reel if I decide to make a long cast.

 

I'm 90% set on the 50, because of the size and line capacity being more practical, I always palm my reels, the 50 is more comfortable, and I have never made a 100 yard cast so I don't see why I'd need 140 yards of 12lb fluoro.

 

Another appealing thing is the fact that I could throw my little Rapala's easier.

 

Being stuck on the bank a lot, I don't use many big cranks, but my little crankbaits catch a good bit of fish when they aren't hiding from the GA heat under brush and sitting deep.
