Tools Required For Switching Tm/ Electronics 24V To 12V

Featured Replies

Basically got a new club boat that is on a 12v battery. The old boat has  newer TM and electronics so I am going to switch them over. Honestly I have never done it but my old president is a gear head so he is going to guide me through it. The problem with being away at school is that all my tools are at home. I am headed home today so what tools should I grab? I assume wire cutters, electrical tape, socket wrench set, wd40, needlenoose pliers, channel locks, hammer, screwdrivers and so on. Is there anything that I might need  or things I should pay attention to?  Also could I upgrade the boat from a 12v to a 24v just by using the stuff of the old boat?

Providing, you have at least 8ga wire, yes. You will however need a short jumper with connectors like this http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=2254&familyName=Ancor+Marine+Grade+4+AWG+Battery+Cable+Assembly+ to connect the batteries in series. I'd also pick up some shrink tubing and assorted butt connecters which needs to be heated with a heat gun or open flame.

Drill and drill bits and new mounting kit for TM.  If they are two different make TM's you will probably have to drill new holes to mount it.  Same with the mounts for you depth finder.  If they have different bases, you will have to drilled new holes for it also.

Everything will stay 12 volts other than the TM.  All you need from the old boat will be the batteries and the interconnect cable going between the two batteries.  Possibly the circuit breaker also, unless the one in the new boat is large enough.
