Anyone use the Laser Lures?

Featured Replies

I have been reading alot about the Laser Lures and seeing them used more and more around the local DNR lakes with some pretty good success....even with Channel Cats.

Anyone use or like them?

Thanks!

Matt

I have one but havent got a chance to fish with it yet ;) But I dont think they are a gimick. You know how a dog or cat or just any animal will chace a laser? Bass do the same I saw a video of somone taking a laser and shining into a bass tank and the bass were going crazy so I can t wait to use it

But the thing is, the bass, dogs, and cats are chasing the red dot that the laser makes, not the source of the light (the laser pointer or Laser Lure). The lures are good quality and I'm sure they will catch fish, but I doubt the laser itself provokes many bites.

When you use a laser pointer with your dogs and cats what you see is in the air,the laser defracts differently underwater,so I wonder how that plays into the equation?

Even if you shine the laser at an aquarium ,the light is getting bent/distorted by the glass in someway.

Who really knows what the fish sees anyway?

But the lure doesn't project the light source out like a laser pointer. The light only illuminates the bill for the most part. I'm not saying it works, I just don't think it's the same as a laser pointer. I guess to me the light "shines" more than "points".

Like I said I havent used them but I threw it in the water (my pool) and I think your right it didnt really point on the walls

That's true. But my point is that whatever is interested in the light isn't interested in the source of the light, but the light that is emitted.

If you own a cat or dog, try this out - see if they will continue to attack a laser dot if it isn't moving.

You'll find that they reason they are attracted to the dot is because it's something they haven't seen before, AND it's MOVING.

My guess is that bass will attack a laser pointer dot because of the same principle. When you already have a crank with a wobble that puts out vibrations and moves like a fish, it kind of makes the laser thing redundant.

I can't bring myself to pay that much for a crank, but they are built pretty well.

I think anything red is going to increase your chances of a strike though, laser or not. Just paint your bills red ;)

I think i will order one tonight when i get home and give it a shot next weekend at the local DNR lake.  I'll let you guys know my findings.

As for it being a pointing device, no..but it illuminates the bill of the crank to be "laser" bright.  IDK...i'll report back what i find... lol

Matt

I would recommend to just buy one and try it out but I got mine for $10 it was a FLW special. So im gonna go use it today more than likely so ill tell yall what happens

I have thrown them and here is what I found.

First, they are a very attractive crankbait.

Second, the laser light may or may not work.

Third, you have to be careful when storing them to avoid having the hooks touch any metal.

Fourth, they are big.

Overall, I would rather throw a Bandit 100.

I never had a strike. But then I have only fished them in heavy stained water.  ;)

I've caught a few fish on them but I didn't think were anything special and certainly not a premium bait.

yes this is right it dont shoot the beam out.. it projects it on the bill of the lure.. I love there shallow diver and have caught a whole lot of fish on them... IDK if the laser part of its what really catches fish.... the baits are really good quality and the shallow diver really reminds me of my LC shallow cranks and that alone to me is what really catches the fish but the laser thing may really be a big part of it.

Also I get them at 6-7 dollars each!! I would NEVER buy them at even close to full price just buy Lucky Craft at those prices.

Funny enough, I just got like 4 LC Pointer 78s and 4 LC Pointer 128s for $7 each.  ;)

Very nice!!!!!!

I remember a few members talking them up at the begining of the season.  Don't recall hearing much since then.

I imagine they work about as well without the light as they do with the light, but I don't know for sure and never will.

The whole "have you ever seen a cat chase a laser light?" line of thought makes me laugh. ;D Yeah, my cats will chase a laser light, they'll also chase a paper ball, a feather, a piece of string, anything that is prey-sized and moves. Just like a bass. ;)

Couldn't have said it better.

Ok I used this lure yesturday didnt fish with it much but didnt catch anything so its not like it increases your chances alot. But in the directions it says put in tackle box alone do not let it touch other hooks. So I did I DIDNT THINK ABOUT MY DANG HOOK KEEPER!!! Now it is dead ;) I do like the way it looks and its action but its not worth it and if you buy one do not put it on your hook keeper will drain the unreplaceable battery

Thanks for all the replys everyone!  I went out this morning at 6am to the local DNR lake that has been pretty dead on bass...crappie and bluegill hit everything in the water still to date.

Results....Threw buzz and tiny torpedo in the early hour....bass after bass

Threw a few grubs on a 1/4 jib head....bass

Threw a few Rapala minnows...silver and then the rat-l-trap.....bass

Finally fished up around noon with a black/gold and the blue clear glass shad rap....BOOM bass hitting hard!

Total of about 23 bass that I can remember catching...not to mention countless bluegill and crappie!

I decided that if I was going to pay 20 some dollars for a lure...they better jump in the boat before I even tie it on!

Also...I LOVE POWER Pro!!!!   LOL

Tight line's everyone,

Matt
