Going to order some plastics from a local tackle maker and am wondering what colors I should be getting. These will be used primarily to fish for smallmouth in the upper Potomac river (shallow and rocky for the most part) and occassionally for chasing largemouth in various local lakes. I'm looking to get some soft jerk baits, craws for jig trailers and some tubes. Any specific colors you guys reccomend or have had luck with on these types of baits? Thanks!!!

 I fish one color Watermelon seed... everything.

Watermelon ( you pick the flake color you like the most ) & Green Pumpkin will cover 80% of your needs, 90% of the time. For soft plastic jerkbaits ( flukes ) Pearl belly and whatever kind of flake color back will cover most situations.

Watermelon, and red shad colors are all I use...

PB&J, Green Pumpkin, Watermelon Red Flake, and something with brown and orange

Green Pumpkin and Black and you're good to go! Green Pumpkin for brighter days / clearer waters; black for any time else. I'm not afraid to try the full range of colors (some days it doesn't seem to matter what you throw at them), but those two seem to be the best all-purpose producers for me.

Green Pumpkin if I had to choose only 1 colour. If I was able to get 3 choices, Green Pumpkin, Black/Blue Flake and Watermelon/Red Flake.

Heres what I do for plastics. I buy natural colors like pearl white, watermelon, green pumpkin, black, smoke, clear. Then, I also get a few wild colors like chartruese and bubble gum. That should cover everything you'll need.

Top five in no particular order 1. Black 2. Watermelon 3. Pumpkin 4. Green Pumpkin and 5. Junebug. Choose different colored flakes as you desire. Day in day out these five colors have been the strongest for  me in all soft plastics including the styles that you mentioned.

Seriously black is a great all around color, red bug and red shad, yellow worms are good for top water and white flukes and craws work well too.

I've had success with all shades of blue.

A pink trickworm from zoom has been known for catching some smallmouth in the upper Potomac!

I generally focus on dark colors (black/blue/purple) and natural colors (green pumpkin/brown). Most of my soft plastics variations on these two color categories.

K.I.S.S.   green pumpkin and black/blue for your worms, trailers, creature/craw baits, and white for a fluke, and you'll catch bass anywhere. Shiny metal flakes, and the rainbow of colors catch more fisherman than fish. For all we know, under water in might all look like one dull shade of grey to the fish.

Watermelon pepper, watermelon red flake, June bug and smoke pearl blue (a medium blue with a touch of a sheen to it). 

My go to color is watermelon.  Especially watermelon green brush hogs.

 

I always have pumpkinseed and chartreuse pepper or something with a chartreuse tail as a backup for those cloudy days when watermelon isn't the best choice.
