Hook Keepers

Featured Replies

I’m not familiar with rod building but was wondering how complex would it be to add a hook keeper to rods? I had a Phenix Recon1 and the hook keeper is on the bottom near the butt. I cannot stand it being there and sold the rod as silly as that may sound. I may end up buying a used Daiwa Zillion rod but I believe they have no hook keeper at all. The last thing I want is to use the top of my reel as a hook keeper. I also don’t feel confident using the closest guide to the reel as a hook keeper just in case of accidents. Anyone knows a thing or two about this please help me out. Otherwise I’ll probably pass on a buddies Zillion Rods.

Bass Pro offers at least 3 different kinds of hook holders that you can attach to any rod. Look under rod and reel accessories.

I make my own from stainless steel wires. Then I wrap it and coat with epoxy.

A couple bucks & a little time and it is easy. See if there is a custom rod builder in your area. Wouldn't take much for them

I have been using the ones that look like a thick O-ring with an eye on the side. They work fine for me although you might want to go with something that holds your lures further away from your rod if your worried about scratches.
