Check This Bass Out

Featured Replies

You're really gonna go there with us???

Sorry but someone had to get out on the water. Even though the sun was shinning and the fish were well wet. LOL Buddy and I were side pulling for crappie. And the crappie won. Will be heading to Pickwick lake Sunday evening and camp and fish for 7 days. Again hate to do it but someone has to. :respect-059:

Hooked up and ready to roll.

Yea man those colors are crazy looking, have you ever caught one similar to that in the waters you were fishing? Or have any idea how/why it got like that?

I have never caught one in Maine like that, or with any blotches. I have caught a couple in VT, in Lake Champlain. There are several ideas what causes it but not proof. We know what happens and why the fish is colored so. For some reason (yet unknown to science) something causes the pigment producing cells to produce an excess of melanin which cause the black coloration. There are several theories, increased handling from tournaments, human induced chemicals in the water, PCBs, poor water quality, etc.
