I was wondering how many of you prefer to use a swivel to connect braid to fluoro for your drop shot rig? 

It's a good idea to use a swivel when drop shotting if using a regular hook and a palamar knot. I use a crazy alberto knot to join braid to flourocarbon. I use about an 8 foot leader of flouro and this goes through the guides. I also use a VMC spinshot hook so I don't have to worry about line twist. I like the longer flouro leader when drop shotting. Hope this helps.

I don't use a swivel on my drop shot rig.

 

I believe it presents two weak points in the line that could prove troublesome.

Use a quality crane-type swivel, such as the Spro PowerSwivel, #8. I use this to separate my fluoro drop shot leader from the main line, which, for me, has to be a braid. Has worked exceptionally well for me over many years of drop shotting. In my opinion, the notion that putting a swivel between the main line and leader, creates too many knots and subsequently causes weak points, has not panned out in reality for me. I catch a lot of bass this way.

Thanks everyone. I did use swivel on mine last year. The main reason I liked it was because I could re-tie it a lot of faster with the swivel. I carry pre-tied drop shot leaders and when I needed to retie all I have to do is tie a clinch knot to the swivel (about 10 seconds).  I found that tying double uni takes me at least couple minutes. The main problem is that with the swivel I have to keep the FC leaders kind of short (around 4 ft.). 

I just use a spin-shot hook and then I don't have to worry about it.

most of my dropshotting is not done vertical, so a spinshot is not direction I go, I use a long 15-20ft floro leader and just tie a regular palomar I have not had any issues with this set up and the only part of my line that gets twisted is the drop line, which I don't care about... the long leader is nice incase you have to cut and retie you can do this a few times without having to do the double uni knot to tie the leader on...

Just buy drop shot finesse weights with the swivel built in. Eliminates twist and they are reasonable from the right places. Spinshot hooks need to be a wire gauge heavier for me they are just to thin for 5lb+ fish. Can it be done sure but I won't be the one testing my luck on every drop. Owner flyliner or gama light wires are still lite but have much more strength.

I use 15lb braid with a floro leader. I use an Alberto knot to connect the two. Never had an issue with line twist and braid.

Tried it and didn't like it. When my leader was long it made it hard to cast. My setup now is braid to FC with a uni to uni.

Well, I think I will try uni to uni this year, maybe with a longer leader like Mitch suggested. Thanks. 

I prefer to avoid any hardware between the rod and hook. I'll use spin shot hooks, but I prefer a direct tie to the hook.
