Abu Garcia Vengeance Tip Replacement

Featured Replies

The tip of my vengeance casting rod got damaged and needs replacing. I bought a tip replacement kit but the tip on the vengeance seems like it may be attached differently than just with glue. Has anyone replaced the tip on a vengeance? Do I just need to heat it up and slide it off or is it more involved?

If there is thread and finish on the tip top heat it gently and scrape it away with a razor blade being careful not to cut the blank. Beyond that apply heat to the tip top while applying pressure straight off the end. Do not twist. If the top is epoxied as opposed to hot glued it will still come off but may require a little more heat.

I replaced one on that rod for a buddy. Its not wrapped on, but wrapped up to it. You can simply lay the rod across your work bench and heat the eye of the tip with a lighter until it gets hot enough to melt the adhesive. Then pull the tip straight off with a pair of pliers and drop into a glass of water.

Be cautious though, those tip repair kits (the cheap ones) have cheap guides that will not handle braid.

Braided lines and guide materials have come a long way. Pretty much any them are compatible. If there's any problem down the road they're easy enough to upgrade but I'd be surprised.

I'm speaking of the pack of tips people buy from walmart for $1.99. They are nothing more than plastic inserts inside of an cheap frame.

This rod is going to get almost exclusively fluorocarbon. Thanks for the info though, Im confident I can tackle this now
