Pitching A Lake Fork Ring Fry

Featured Replies

I didnt want to high jack the other thread. Is the ring fry heavy enough ( like a senko) to be pitched on casting gear?

Yes.

It really just depends on how proficient you are with a bait caster as well as the reel, line #. But IMO you can throw the LF ring fry weightless no problem on casting gear. Furthermore anything 1/16 oz. and above

There is a guy in my local club that fishes almost exclusively with Baby Ring Fries T-rigged with a 1/16 oz weight - the Regular ones are touch heavier and can easily be fished w/o weight.  But, as I have said on other posts a good way to fish 'em is with a nail weight stuck in the butt end - sort of makes 'em back up and gets a reaction from trailing bass.

imho there is no wrong way to fish the ring fry, wacky, jig head, weightless t-rig, c-rig (as much as I hate it) weighted t-rig, drop shot (both wacky and nose hooked) its an all around great bait.

x2. One of the best all around baits, right up there with the trick worm. I personally have seen the most production from the baby ring fry, wacky rigged, in finesse fishing situations.

Yes they can be used in place of a senko or any other stick bait for that matter. These things IMO have much better action than a senko.

Depends on what your looking for. They obviously won't sink nowhere near as fast as a senko.(which is why I like em on a c-rig)

would these replace a senko type bait?

Nothing will ever replace a senko...there will be times when that is all they want, but the ring frys definitely have a time and place of their own  ;D
