is there anyway to tell if there floaters, sinkers, suspending. i got a box full of em i looked at a couple to look for markings stating but didnt see any but also didnt look at every one because theres at least 40 of them. i know i can put em in the water to find out but theres 20+ inches of ice.

Yep. I used the bathtub to figure out the three Mattlures Hard Bass I bought through the Flea Market here. My 11 and 3 year old boys did the job, determining the floater, slow sink, and fast sink. Nice little science project for them.

yeah but iv suspending lures float in the tub when i know they suspend in the lake or river but they always float in the tub so hows that work?

Suspending lures usually are designed suspend in a certain water temp, smithwick may not have "designed" them to do this,(but they will anyway) but with lucky crafts you know exactly when your bait should be neutral.   I think if you fill it deep enough with cold water you would get a better answer on if its a suspending bait or a floating bait.  If its designed to suspend, at least you know its not going to be nearly as buoyant as the floaters. You can always add weights to make it suspend if its not doing its job exactly the way you want it too.

iv added old split rings that iv removed for oval ones and put round ones back on where to hooks go for that extra weight to get it to sit at diffrent angles

That'll work...  Upgrading or downgrading the size of the hook or the strength of the hook...the 2x's and 3x's are thicker and will add weight. But this can also be a little harder to set the hook. I use lead golfers tape, works really well, and is a lot easier than adding wire to the hook shanks.

im not sure if its the same on the older rogues, but the current types have "suspending" molded into the lip above where it says "Smithwick Rogue". the only ones that dont have anything on the lip is the super rogues, which i think are all suspending. the floaters just have "Smithwick Rogue" on the lip.

got out to the local honey hole and did some short flick casts testing out all my smith wicks this is what I found.

2 hooks = sinker

3 hooks = floater

ugly yellow purple dotted floater = pike magnet

The pike broke my line by the way
