How Do You Fish Bursh Hogs?

Featured Replies

How do you rig them? I went by my local DSG and they were .99 a bag so I bought a few.

If its the full size brush hog, then rig them with a 4/0 or a 5/0 hook Texas style. I like 1/4 oz up to 1.5oz depending on current and cover. Good lures. Go back and buy the rest of them if you have the money and they have good colors.

I love brush hogs. I usually texas rig them with or without weight depending on conditions and how far I need to cast them. They are also effective with a carolina rig especially on a grassy bottom.

I went back and cleaned them out 52 packs lol

I Texas rig them with a 4/0 hook and 1/4oz weight. Just crawl it along the bottom and vary your retrieves to see what the fish want. Great plastics and a wonderful price!

That's a smoking deal! I've got two local DSG's and they both have zero fishing gear. :(

I T-rig a baby brush hog with 3/0 Gammy and a 3/16 bullet wieght pegged. Also on a 1/4 ounce shakey head when fishing deep.

For the baby I use a 1/0 EWG gammy with a 1/4 parasite sinker, same setup with the full size except a 3/0 EWG. I'll go heavier in deeper water or when it's windy. I use them as a pitchin' bait, but they are a great carolina rig bait too.

I prefer the baby brush hog over the full size.. Bit thats just my humble opinion.. Not to say yours is the same. The baby's Ill throw on a texas rig, and occasionally on a 3/8 oz skirtless jig.

I throw baby brush hogs on 1/16-1/4oz shaky heads or sometimes as a jig trailer.  Full-sized brush hogs I will throw on a larger shaky head w/ an EWG style hook.

I prefer the Baby version over the full size.

I stick to 1/0 round bend hooks when fishing them on spinning gear and  2/0 round bend hooks on casting gear.  I have had great luck this year fishing them on a Carolina Rig in Watermelon Green.  I have caught 3 lb+ spots since February very consistantly.

1/4oz swinging football head with a 3/0 EWG hook is a killer. They're a great C rig bait too.

I use mostly the Baby Brush Hog or the Super Hog (a bit bulkier). I Texas Rig them usually, sometimes I use a Gammy Jobe hook.  Tried them with on a jika rig yesterday, caught two, missed two more. I will definitely be using the Jika rig some more. It imparts an undulating action to the bait that a T-Rig does not.

I Texas rig mine with a 1/4 weight sometimes I peg it really a good bait in green pumpkin & watermelon
