Is This A Counterfeit Reel?

Featured Replies

Hi, so I'm looking at buying this rod and reel combo on craigslist and I just wanted to make sure first that it definitely is real and not a fake/counterfeit reel. Its an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Revo STX and A fenwick Techna AV rod. Ill post some pics and if yall could just confirm it's not a fake I'd so appreciate it! It's just such a good deal I don't want to get tricked on it. Thanks so much1

It looks like a first generation STX.

If its to good to be true it probably is.. My rule of thumb..

That is a Gen1 Revo STX, magnetic brakes only.  It is a true Abu Garcia reel and the that is a true classic Fenwick rod. A great classic rod and reel combo that still look to be in great condition.

My one issue from the pictures is that the spool edges look orange, but the handle is the same silver. Some pictures I found that had an orange spool most had orange handles. Everything else checks out 100% so could that just be a different model of the 1st gen STX? Could somebody touch in on this issue please? I'll be going to pick it up in the next day or two if it checks out and would really like to know soon. Thanks again! Yall rock!

EDIT: I actually found an old 1st gen I think it is on ebay with the same orange spool and silver handle. Makes me feel a lot better! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Abu-Garcia-Revo-STX-Baitcast-Fishing-Reel-/151289537300?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item23398f2314

Can yall confirm that both these look legit?

There's almost no way to know 100% just by ur

Photos.... Being cautious is good... But you're

Just stressing too much over this . Make you're

Decision. One way or the other, you will feel better about it.

I agree and appreciate the reply! I do think you're right Alone as well, I probably am stressing out too much about it. I'm just going to pick it up tomorrow and let yall know the final cost of the rod and reel. Thanks all!

Obviously I can't say 100%, but I've had 2 STX reels and they both looked exactly like that. Since you're picking it up in person, make sure the reel works OK. That could potentially be a reason its super cheap. But who knows, there are good deals out there.

Just in general is it acceptable to cast it out into grass/asphalt or is there another way to make sure everything works well?

It's your money. I think that would be fine. Having sold my share of gear before, I wouldn't be offended if someone asked me if they could make a couple casts. If he/she has an issue with it, I might be suspicious.

Also, if that's your plan it would probably be appropriate to bring your weights and whatever you plan to cast. Maybe contact them before hand as well just so they know too.

Go to Alibaba.Com and type in any product. You will be shocked how many copies are being made. A major problem right now
