Help With My Local Lake

Featured Replies

I am getting skunked lately at my local lake. I purchased a kayak this year so I am on the lake for the first instead of the banks. The lake is pretty heavily pressured from boaters, kayak ears and shore fisherman alike and there is recreational boat traffic. However, it is an electric only lake.

I have been out most days between 10-4 but also early in the am. Water temps are in the mid to high 60's and air temps are in the 70's. There are still some bass that are coming up to spawn but most seem to be done.

I do not have a fish finder on my yak but I do have a topo map and map from the state showing the structure they have added. That being said, I am not great at locating all the structure and drop offs since I don't have GPS. There are also lots of downed trees along the shores. I have been throwing a little bit of everything including plastics, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs and jerk baits and I have not been getting bit much. I would like some input on what I could do to improve my success. Thanks in advance for the help!

Cant read the depth lines but this time of the year I'd be on the spawning flats esp. given our late spring which look to me to be the largest flat on this lake fed by the Marsh Creek feeder creek.

I also might try the only extensive flat near the dam which has easy access to deeper water as well.

All 3 of the northern arms look promising.. cant read the text but looks like the wildlife dept looks like also installed structures benefiting spawn in certain ar

Depending on where the fish are at, they could be at different stages of spawning in either of those areas.

Best of luck.

Thanks, depth lines are in 10' increments deepest part of the lake is 60'. I do see some fish on beds and some bigger bass cruising the shallows.

well then its definitely the larger shallow flats for me.. bass spawn usually less than 10' so they must be happily frolicking in those areas right now.. since yer kayaking I'd start at the largest flat out of the feeder creek

Anyone else?

Hey GADawgs,  I live right above Marsh Creek Lake. I fish it often, usually 2 to 3 times a week. I just moved down here about three years ago and fished it since. I have been out last week (2 trips ) and netted  6 LMB  One was over 4lbs the rest were between 2 and 3 lbs.  Its a hard Lake to fish in my opinion.  I have one spot that I always catch a 4lber at but that may be the only catch I have all day.  As it gets hotter, it gets harder to catch them.  I use home made plastics senko types and crawfish types. I struggle reading the Lake as well.  I seem to always fish in 3 to 5ft of water.  I watch alot of guys fishing behind me in 10ft of water but have no seen them pull anything in.  Was wondering about jig fishing the lake in deeper water but never did this before and everytime I go out, I fall back to beating the shore line.  I could use a class in reading my fishfinder and some instructions from a fisherman who jigs in deep water.  Anyone willing to share there technique?
