High Muddy Water

Featured Replies

Just had 5.5" of rain . The water is high and Muddy . How do I fish it for Bass ?

muddy water often pushes bass up shallow so you have that advantage. use stuff with black or chartreuse that has a good bit of vibration like a spinnerbait with a big colorado blade and ive had pretty good luck using a jig with a trailer, especially rage tail products. to me the 4 keys to muddy water fishing are color, vibration, scent, and a larger profile.

He said it all!!! Muddy water means less light penetration, the shallow water will stay cooler than in clearer water so the morning bite usually last longer in mudy water conditions. You have to take your problem and turn it to your advantage!!

Good luck!

The muddier the water the tighter bass will often hold to cover and will often take several cast to get them to bite. A dark colored bladed jig is one of my favorite muddy water baits.

Black and blue jigs. Bass fishing in muddy water can be hit or miss, but once the water starts to get 6"+ visibility (I have seen <1") the fish holding tight to cover hit well

I really like a black/blue chatterbait with black havoc grass pig trailer thrown tight to cover.

Went today tried the tips ,didn't get bit . Then ran to the other end of the lake . The water was just stained there . Had a good day on KVD 1.5 crank baits ,the last two where nice fish . On points on the main body of water close to the dam .

When I get to muddy water. I usually throw Strike King KVD 1.5 or 2.5 Chartreuse Black or Bluegill. If the cranks doesn't get any bites. I'll throw Havoc Pitboss in Blue and Black or Zoom Brush Hog in Blue and Black.

In naturally clear lakes, bass do not develop the same sound-feeding skills as bass that live in perennially murky water.

Consequently, when muddy water infiltrates a clear water lake, it's wise to look for areas with clearer water.

This isn't the case however in perennially murky lakes, where it's business as usual.

Muddy water does not cause bass to change water depth, but it does stack them tighter to cover.

Also, bass in muddy water usually setup closer to the surface -OR- they'll move smack on the bottom.

As you'd expect, good lure attributes in muddy water are Large, Dark, Noisy.

High water scatters bass...muddy water put bass closer to cover.

Difficult situation at best ;)

Spinnerbait for sure. If the water is really stained go with a chart colored spinner bait with a good Colorado blade but if there is still some visibility go with a chart/white spinnerbait and for blade a willow leaf blade should do the trick. Fish fast and fish sawllow. Rain really gets bass active and so,e of my best days are after fronts in the summer.
