Thank You Sir ~

But you know how it goes - if I were tournament fishing, I'd probably be a dink magnet or someone else would catch them . . . . .

Got on a few post spawners today on a local reservoir, caught them in water willows on a frog and flipping a jig, fun stuff! A school of bass came up chasing shad in open water and the only bait I had tied up that was even close to something one would throw in that situation was the frog, and on my first cast where the fish had been breaking, one actually ate the darn thing! Definitely a first for me and I have spent a lot of time on schooling bass.

Awesome weather weekend! Hope you all got to enjoy some fishing time. I went pond hopping as I am having trouble getting my used canoe registered. Hopefully I will be on the water next weekend for some smallmouth fishing in my father in laws boat.

In the meantime this was the best Largemouth of the weekend for me.

Some Monday night local tournament fun! 5lb gap between the other 11 boats and myself, had a blast and as of now I'm out of the red and into the black for local tournaments. (not that I actually think I can do anything but lose money by fishing them :laugh5:)

Nothing too big. I live in NE Ohio and all my local lakes only produce 2lb fish on average. I know the fatties are out there I'm just waiting patiently :)

Some of the better green and brown fish from my 2 days of fishing this past week. Most were on either my homemade finesse jigs, or homemade micro jigs. One of the smallmouth was on a Ned rig, one largemouth was on a Whopper Plopper 90. Both days were great days, the kind of days where you're surprised when you make a cast and don't get a bite.

That's what happens when I'm junk fishing. The first lake we were on has about equal numbers of largemouth and smallmouth and they can be caught in 30' on a drop shot, a foot of water on a toowater, flipping grass or laydowns, and everythingin between. I caught a fish on every rod I had out except my swimbait rod that had the big rat on it though.

Took the boat out a second time to a new to me lake (Greenwood Lake NJ/NY.. yes it's split in half by these 2) The most bassy looking lake. Holds smallmouth, largemouth, Muskies, Pike, lake trout, and walleye... mangaged to catch a measely hand size  whiper or white perch. Wasn't even worth taking a picture of.  Got soaked in a rain storm when it wasn't supposed to rain... didn't bring my rain gear. This was more of a getting to know my boat, and backing up the trailer practice trip more than anything so it was a good day.

I had a guide trip Thursday and put the guys on lots of nice fish. One of the guys broke his PB smallmouth twice. In my attempt to avoid catching "their fish", I was fishing a Popping Pad Crasher and managed my first frog smallmouth of the year after a couple hits and misses.

Friday was the hunt for a giant, which went terribly, but at least the PPC was getting smashed by the bucks anytime we could find a ball of fry.

My first river smallie of the year fell to a Rapala X-Rap in standard silver minnow color.  The picture is a little deceiving.  The fish is only 14.5 inches and 1.85 lbs, but still lots of fun battling it in 45 degree water temps.

My first jitterbug bass of the year.  The bite has been really slow around here this May, but hopefully this is a good sign that things are picking up
