Hook Up Ratio With Swimbaits?

Featured Replies

Hey all!

So, im looking to buy a swimbait

The savage gear line thru trout 3d has a treble hook near the head

The spro bbz-1 has two treble hooks on the bottom.

Do you think i will lose more fish on the savage gear swimbait?

You are way ahead of yourself, need to hook the bass first.

The rod, reel, line must be balanced with the lure so you can make hundreds of cast and retrieve the lure properly, then when a bass strikes the lure, getting a good hook set takes some practice with larger swimmers.

You need to develop the proper timing, each swimbait is a little different, generally similar to a top water lure, a pause to let the bass turn just as you set the hook.

Back to your question, a sliding line with 1 treble hook is easier to set then a fixed lure with 2 treble hooks and the lure tends to have less leverage to pull the hook out when a bass jumps, if it jumps.

I've almost landed everything I've hooked with the line thru and definitely a lower landing percentage without the line thru, but as mentioned above you need the right gear for bigger baits!
