Favorite Topwater?

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I'm wondering what your favorite topwater lures are?

Mine was the Hula Popper, but I'm rapidly coming to like the original Zara Spook.  They hit those Spooks when they're not hitting anything else, it seems.

Bad fishing conditions put me in mind of Texas rigs and Zara Spooks.  Rarely do I go home without catching at least two anymore.

im definitely a frog guy. I prefer the solid body buzz frogs because theyre more versatile to me (I can swim them under the surface like a swim bait and they still get hammered). However besides the frogs my favorite topwater lure in the arbogast buzz plug.

Productivity has nothing to do with preference my favorite topwater is the Jitterbug, I love the gurgling sound it makes, not the most productive but I just enjoy fishing with it. ( Torpedos are maybe 3 or 4 times more productive ).

I'm a big topwater guy. I throw a little bit of everything. In the past, I've always been big on Jitterbugs and poppers (Skitter Pop's mainly). This season, I've been having more luck on buzzbaits and torpedo's than anything. I've also started getting into frog fishing as well. The LH Lunker Frog's have the best action of any frog I've ever fished.

Blackwater Cedar baits, as well as Rapala Balsa large topwater minnow baits....

Zara Spook, any size from the puppy to the big ones that you can spool a reel on the cast.

KVD Sexy Dawg which is basically a Spook. Love it.

However, with weeds present I am liking my Arashi Wake crank too.

Megabass X-pod by a wide margin for open water. Spro frog for weeds and mats.

Buzzbaits and a KVD Sexy Dawg are my go to for top water.

Reaction Innovations Vixen, Snag Proof Bobby's Perfect Frog.

Count me in with Raul, a jitterbug makes smile when I fish it. My favorite topwater though is a specific Sammy 115 in my box. It only has one eye, and most of MS Am. Shad pattern is worn off.

I Used to love fishing Spooks and Chug Bugs, but ever since throwing the Ima Skimmer I would say it is 3x productive than the Spook or Sammy (For me at least) and it is super fun to fish as they kill it super fast some days, and as fast as you can walk it is usually how it does it's best work...It is thin and has an action different than any other walking lure I have ever used....Devils Horse is my go topwater for casting to targets and working slow, double prop baits are awesome and fish do not see them much IMO and on tough days a tiny torpedo especially in clear can be killer.

buzzbait-1-4 ft.

walk bait-5ft and higher

popper-any depth when need to fish slower

Spook, Rover, Vixen, Repoman, or a FROG.

Devil's Horse near structure/grass

Toads for covering large areas

Lunker Punkers

Baby Wakes and Wake Jr

Buzz Frogs

I haven't fished them much but I am liking the GYCB Spook and the Sebile one. I could not find the Sebile one though on TW so I do not know what it is called.
