I am looking to get into these 2 techniques next year and will be looking to buy some new rods specific to these.  For these techniques what do you prefer and why?  Pro's or Con's.

I use spinning for both.  Why?  I am not sure.  I just seem to gravitate towards spinning equipment on light line finesse techniques like these.  Personal preference only. 

I know why LC Man uses, spinning for dropshot. Cause dropshotting with a casting rod in 30'+ is a serious PITA. Most of my dropshotting is over 25' and I couldn't imagine using a casting rod. Drop the bait in the water and pull....pull...pull...pull the line off til you're on the bottom. Not for me. Open the bail and poof......bait is on the bottom.

I have a casting combo dedicated to shakey heads. It always has a jighead rigged and ready to go. I'm most comfortable with casting gear, so I use it most of the time. Except when it doesn't make sense.

S Hovanec gave the exact right anwer. Spinning gear is what you want for drop-shotting deeper than about ten feet.

^^ Agreed. Vertical presentations are WAY easier with spinning gear. I use spinning gear for all of my dropshotting and shaky heading.

I fish shakeyheads with either.

I have moved to all spinning gear for the mentioned techniques.

I think light line finesse is better on spinning gear

my spinning outfit is lighter and better balanced for the finesse feel I need for dropshot than my flippin rod

I think I have had Scott make/modify too many rods for me that he even knows my equipment preferences better than I do. :-)

Dropshotting and shakeyheading are NOT LIGHT LINE EXCLUSIVE.

Prefer shaky head.

Will throw a drop shot.

Try to find a rod that is specific to either presentation.

You need a medium heavy with fast tip for shaky head.

You need a medium with a fast tip for a drop shot.

Or just use any rod you want and the heck with getting a technique specific rod.

Casting for shake heads.

Spinning for dropshots.

agreed tho i prefer spinning for both u can get away with a shakeyhead on a baitcaster.
