Recommendations On Baitcasting Reel For Soft Plastics

Featured Replies

I just bought a St. Croix Mojo Bass rod that is designed for plastics (7' M power Fast action). Obviously I want this set up to be geared towards soft plastics so my question is what reel should I be looking at? I would like to stay in the $100 or under range if possible.

Please advise

Thanks!!

Diawa tatula! It can be had for around 100$ if you look around. Try contacting Ron with valley sports

Tatula or LFS. Both great reels in the $100 range.

You should be able to find a Shimano Citica G for around $100.  Great reel that gets the job done but the Tatula is not a bad reel either.

As you spend a little more for bait casters, there are quality differences.

My advice would be to spend the extra money, get a Calcutta or a current model Curado or a Chronarch or a Calais (I don't have a lot of experience with the upper end Shimano's, except to say that my Calais is 10 years old and it still works like new, maybe better because it is broke in now)

I can't speak to the upper end models of other reel lines, because I don't have any.  Of the Shimano reeks I mentioned, many of mine are more than 10 years old and use quite a bit and you can't wear them out, assuming normal use.

JMO on bait casting reels.

In that 100 dollar range I like a few reels...

1) Tatula

2) T3-B

3) Lews tournament MG

4) skeet reese reel ( can get them for around 50.00)

If it was me I would get the skeet reese, the big handles and the strong drag make it a good choice for bottom contact...
