Powell Max Spining Rod 701?

Featured Replies

Have any of you used this model of the powell max spining rod? I was thinking of it as a drop shot/shaky head rod. I can get it of Tw for $130.                  Thanks!...

Haven't used the Max but have used Endurance and its a really nice rod.  Powell makes nice rods.  The Endurance and Max are being discontinued for the new Max 3D series.  Old Max and Endurances should be going on sale so.  That's what I'm waiting for.

I would get the Endurance model of that rod if I were you. You can get it for only 10 bucks more.

See if you can handle one with a reel before buying.  I know it isn't the model your considering, but I bought a Diesel sight-unseen earlier this year.  I find the reel-seat to be very uncomfortable --- and looking at the handle pictures on TW, they look like very similar design.  Additionally, the reel-seat nut tends to loosen much more frequently than any of my others spinning rods.  I used a Pflueger President on it for a couple months and a Symetre for the last two months.
