Looking to get a few Hudds rigged up, and had a couple questions. What is your preferred 80lb mono for the harness, and where do I find the double barrel crimps needed? Thanks!

 

 

Shane you can get the crimps from one of the big box stores salt water dept. Owner makes some Stinger Harness rigs with 80lb/ #5290-107 & 520-208. I got them from TW.

I use wire for trap hooks;

40# Sevalon or 60# Surflon with A3 crimp sleeves.

Buying smaller sized skeins of Mono leader material will cost you less as you might not need 2500 yds for Huddleston rigs.

 

Double check your crimp job ensuring it is good and does not damage the line.

It's not a good ideal to crimp onto nylon, cold flows and will loosen in time. If you chose to use nylon line then super glue it after crimping. 7 strand stainless wire is small diameter and very strong after crimping.

You don't need a stinger hook on the 68.

Is there a reason for the trap hook? Are you missing fish?

I've never fished an 8 before. But I don't wanna miss any fish, so that's why I'm doing the mod. From what I've heard, it accounts for at least half of the hookups.

I generally don't have problems with hook ups unless fishing around spots. That bottom hook is not going to allow you to fish that bait as slow as you need to this time of year. It is also going to kill some fish because it will get into there gills. When you do get bit and see how far they choke it, you will see what I am talking about. If you are going to do a trap hook its better to do it on top.

Paint your hooks flat white that you use on the belly rig.  I use the BB rigging.  Spray all my hooks flat black first to keep the shine off.  Does it help, not sure. But I know it doesn't hurt.

I'm going to rig one of each with the trap hook, and leave the other two without it, that way I can feel them out for myself, and use the one that best suits me for speed of retrieve, etc.  I do know this for sure, the first fish that dies on me, and the traps are gone. I'd rather lose a fish, than kill a fish.
