Breakable Split Rings

Featured Replies

So I thought about this the other day and it seems like a plausible idea. It would depends on the baits your fishing and cover but I think it would be a benefit to be able to pop a hook off and still get a bait back if you get hung. I really was thinking about this applying to expensive baits like swimbaits. There are plenty of places I would want to toss a bait but am not willing to get a $100 bill stuck. I was thinking I could probably tie trebles on with some mono that's lighter then your main line and if you did get hung the hook should pop off and your only out a hook. It is something I think I need to try out next year. Then maybe I could really get deep in some junk with baits I would never dare try with.

I could care less about loosing a crank. I mean unless you fish insanely expensive cranks.

You have $25 crankbaits? Either way I also wouldn't be worried about it since it would be very rare for that to happen plus I am talking big baits and drag would go before the line ever broke so it's a non issue.

They make them.  Check out Ultimate Smart Link Titanium Split Rings.  TW sells them.

I wish I knew about these before. I can't believe I never heard of this. Could be a total game changer.

I remember those, Jrob78, I just didn't know they were still avail. If I'm throwing $100 swimbaits,

( I do not ) seems those would be a wise investment.. Most certainly better than mono, although I admire your ingenuity.

I've considered buying them a few times but haven't.  I could definitely see using them with swimbaits.

They would for sure be a good idea with those high price baits.  I dont fish those super high priced baits. I have a few lucky Craft, but I dont worry too much about if they get lost. Just make sure when you get the Smart Link rings, get some that are a few lbs less than your line or the line will snap before the hooks break away

Love the use.

Makes total sense.

Already out in the marketplace and I have some.

I am at the office so I don't remember their name but I think one of the guys on TV were promoting them.

They bend allowing the treble hook to remain in whatever it got caught in and you get your crankbait back.

If I remember I will look up their name.

Happy New Year!

I would be leary of something designed to let loose!

I posted that I would try to find the "breakable" split rings and let you guys know what I have.

I found them!

They are Ultimate Luresaver Titanium R/S  25-30 pound split rings.

And the are not cheap.

The original price tag yells "$9.29" for six in a pack.

Reason I have them is that they were  in the discount bin for $2.00 each so I picked up four packs.
