Has Anyone Ever..

Recommended Posts

Had new line break halfway through the spool? So I just recently respooled all of my reels with brand new  power pro braid. I took one of the rods out today and on the second cast broke midway through the cast right after it left the line guide on my reel. And backlashed the worst I have ever had. I don't know what could have caused it to just up and break like it did. I've used braid for years now and never experienced anything like this. I spooled it up correctly, and everything. Guides on my rod are not chipped or cracked, and the line guide is the same way. The only thing is that this spool of line was brightly colored almost a neon red compared to all of the rest of the the braid which was the dark red. Could it just have been a bad spool? what do you guys think?

I had one spool of sunline fx2 braid where that happened to me a few times. Sometimes braid can't handle the initial shock of the cast and it will break. It's a lot more common in surf fishing, some surf casters will always use a shock leader of mono to prevent this. That being said I don't use a leader for freshwater and I've only had that happen to me with one spool of braid.

No idea.

Suggest contacting the manufacturer and asking them for their input.

Never heard of this happening to a braid line.

I tried the Stren braid once. Broke off 3 times while casting the first time out with it. I put it in the garbage as soon as I got home.

I would do the same.

I use power pro as well and I've only had that happen one time when I was really getting into fishing and I feel that it was due to me trying to "over-throw" the bait. :oops-0030:

I've since learned that it doesn't take that much effort to cast a spook on 25# braid, with the right rod, the distance that I want which is typically a long distance.
