Fluke / Spook Set Up On 7.1

Featured Replies

I have a good assortment of special rod / reel set ups for various applications and have an extra 7.1 not being used as well as a 7M Vendetta (feels pretty much like a MH though as you well know)...would this make a good combination to use on flukes and spooks due to the quick taking up of line on the 7.1?  What line would you suggest if so?

Yes.

I recently got a 7'm/f veritas and put the new carboblite reel in 7.1 on it. It is perfect for flukes and spooks..... and almost everything else I put on it! ( within reason)

I personally use 15#YZ ultrasoft. But a 12#copoly would work fine as well.

The outfit will work just fine. As far as line goes, suffix 12lb mono imho will serve you better than a copoly line. Copoly line will get the job done, don't get me wrong, but mono will give the lure more fluidity, where copoly is a little bit more stiffer.

Faster the reel the better for spook fishing, makes it way easier to pick up slack line when they knock so much slack in it from a big explosion.. Also makes it easier to walk them.

Will work great for fluke fishing too!

I use braid and a revo rocket for spooks, and an MGX and fluorocarbon for flukes... BUT if I was going to use just one line for the both, a good mono would be the happy medium.

Yeah, 7:1 is definitely good for spooks and flukes. The problem is I would want a floating line for the spooks and a sinking line with some slack-line sensitivity for the flukes. I'm going to echo some earlier posters and recommend a quality nylon mono.
